Anesthesia monitoring and endotracheal intubation Nursing skills including: restraining patients, administering medications PO/IV/SUBQ/IM, applying and maintaining bandages, providing high quality physical and psychological needs of the patient during any hospitalization stay or visit Proficient in dental prophylaxis Pharmacy and pharmacology knowledge including: preparing and dispensing medications, calculating dosages, recognizing adverse reactions, knowledge of regulations regarding the safe handling of biohazardous materials
Position Requirements:
Veterinary Technician Certification or Licensure (CVT, RVT, LVT, or LVMT). Flexible schedule including some weekend and holiday shifts. Must possess strong communication skills, good judgment and be able to manage stressful situations.

About the Job: As an RVT in the Neurology Department you will be responsible for:
- Solid technical skills and anesthesia knowledge base, sound judgment, and the ability to function both independently and with a team are required
- Venipuncture; IV catheter placement; medication calculations and administration; digital radiography; patient prep and recovery; epidural administration; anesthesia monitoring for a variety of anesthetized procedures including, but not limited to, CT and MRI
- Assisting doctors during patient appointments, providing outstanding client communication and education
- Performing sterile scrub and assist doctors throughout surgical procedures
- Advocating for the patient, providing exceptional comfort, diagnostic, surgical, and nursing care to all patients
- Knowledge of the equipment and materials used and their availability and applications
- Ability to work occasional holidays/weekends, and OT as needed
About You:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in the veterinary field with strong anesthesia experience a must
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written; organizational skills; proactive thinking and a positive attitude are also a must
- Accuracy in calculating and delivering anesthetic agents, fluids, and CRIs
- Proficiency in record keeping related to medical procedures including daily treatments administered, patient status, procedures completed, supplies used, and anesthetic records
- Review and understanding of all medical records pertinent to patient care
- Comprehensive understanding and experience with anesthetic monitoring is required
- RVT or VTS preferred
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and a commitment to developing long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and community is required

What you'll do:
+ Assists in mentoring and training new RVTs and Vet Assistants in: Protocol and procedures, Shelter Buddy, etc.
+ Administers treatments and procedures
+ Prepares and administers pre-anesthetics, IV anesthetics and gas anesthetics
+ Assist staff veterinarians with exams, procedures, necropsies and other duties as assigned
+ Enters and maintains medical records (within the scope of a licensed RVT)

What we're looking for:
+ California Registered Veterinary Technician licensure required.
+ Minimum of one (1) year clinical and/or shelter experience in veterinary environment required.
+ Must have a valid driver's license and be approved by SDHS insurance carrier to drive a company or personal vehicle for work purposes.
Location & Hours: Based at our San Diego Campus. This position works a 4/10 Alternative Work Schedule.
Pay: Starting rate is $25.41 per hour. The hourly rate is determined by your related education and experience.
