The best certifications for a reliability engineer are Engineer In Training Certification (EIT), Six Sigma Green Belt, and Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE).
Reliability engineer certifications demonstrate your competency as a reliability engineer to employers. However, not all reliability engineer certifications provide the same value.
Below is a list of the best reliability engineer certifications. Obtaining a reliability engineer certification will give you a leg up when you apply for jobs and increase your potential salary.
| Rank | Reliability engineer certification | Organization |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Engineer In Training Certification (EIT) | NCEES |
| 2 | Six Sigma Green Belt | IASSC |
| 3 | Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) | ASQ |
| 4 | Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) | SMRP |
| 5 | Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) | SMRP |
| 6 | Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) | ASQ |
| 7 | Certified Six Sigma Greenbelt (CSSGB) | ASQ |
The EIT Certification, which is formally known as the Engineer In Training Certification, is simply a document, a number, granted by the individual’s state engineering board after they pass the Engineer In Training Exam. The Engineer in Training Exam (EIT Exam) is the first of two exams you will take as you move towards obtaining your Professional Engineering License (PE). This exam, which you may also hear referred to as the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (FE Exam), is developed and administered in all states (and a number of locations outside the US) by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). The FE Exam is offered to eligible students year-round in four different testing windows.
The IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (ICGB) is a professional who is well versed in the Lean Six Sigma Methodology who both leads or supports improvement projects, typically as a part-time role. A Lean Six Sigma Green Belt possesses a thorough understanding of all aspects within the phases of D-M-A-I-C. They understand how to perform and interpret Six Sigma tools and how to use standard principles of Lean.
The Certified Reliability Engineer is a professional who understands the principles of performance evaluation and prediction to improve product/systems safety, reliability and maintainability. This body of knowledge (BOK) and applied technologies include, but are not limited to, design review and control; prediction, estimation, and apportionment methodology; failure mode effects and analysis; the planning, operation and analysis of reliability testing and field failures, including mathematical modeling; understanding human factors in reliability; and the ability to develop and administer reliability information systems for failure analysis, design and performance improvement and reliability program management over the entire product life cycle.
The Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) program is a credentialing program for certifying the knowledge, skills and experience of M&R professionals. It's more than just committing textbooks to memory; it's a thorough examination of individual expertise measured against a universal standard.
In support of increasing the recognition and assurance of the capabilities of maintenance and reliability processionals, SMRPCO has developed and continued to improve a certification process for maintenance and reliability management. The CMRP exam has become the international standard measure of competence in our field.
The Certified Quality Engineer is a professional who understands the principles of product and service quality evaluation and control. This body of knowledge and applied technologies include, but are not limited to, development and operation of quality control systems, application and analysis of testing and inspection procedures, the ability to use metrology and statistical methods to diagnose and correct improper quality control practices, an understanding of human factors and motivation, facility with quality cost concepts and techniques, and the knowledge and ability to develop and administer management information systems and to audit quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
The Six Sigma Green Belt operates in support of or under the supervision of a Six Sigma Black Belt, analyzes and solves quality problems and is involved in quality improvement projects. A Green Belt is someone with at least three years of work experience who wants to demonstrate his or her knowledge of Six Sigma tools and processes.
The best reliability engineer certification is Engineer In Training Certification (EIT). The Engineer In Training Certification (EIT) is awarded by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying.
Here's a bit more background on how to obtain this reliability engineer certification:
The most in-demand reliability engineer certification is Certified Reliability Engineer based on all active job postings. Having this reliability engineer certification will give you access to more reliability engineer jobs with higher salaries.
The Certified Reliability Engineer certification will help you to secure a senior reliability engineer position, which will increase your pay and career trajectory. A senior reliability engineer's average salary is $124,414 whereas reliability engineers make an average salary of $105,551.
The most common combination of reliability engineer certifications include: Engineer In Training Certification (EIT), Six Sigma Green Belt, and Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE).
