The Water Wastewater Department Lead will be responsible for managing the Water Wastewater department throughout NJ, ensuring the successful design, implementation, and maintenance of Water Wastewater systems across various projects and clients. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Department Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership to the NJ Water Wastewater department, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Partner and collaborate with W/WW Regional Managers in PA, MD, NC and other States where we currently conduct work.
Project Management: Oversee all NJ Water Wastewater projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards including coordination with other NJ regional offices and disciplines. Partner with W/WW Regional Managers in PA, MD, NC and other States where we currently conduct work .
Technical Oversight: Serve as the primary technical authority for Water Wastewater systems in NJ, offering guidance and expertise to ensure optimal design and functionality. Coordinate with other NJ Regional offices on standards, changing NJ legislation and funding that may impact NJ clients.
Budget and Resource Allocation: Manage NJ departmental resources effectively, including staffing, budgeting, and scheduling, to meet project demands and organizational goals. Provide regular updates and reports on department NJ Water Wastewater activities, performance metrics, and project statuses. Partner and collaborate with W/WW Regional Managers in PA, MD, NC and other States where we currently conduct work.
Quality Control: Implement and enforce stringent quality control processes to ensure all NJ Water Wastewater work meets or exceeds industry standards, RVE established standards and NJ regulatory requirements. Ensure QA/QC of delivered group product is conducted by individual or by peer review.
Client Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with NJ clients, understand their needs, addressing concerns, and ensuring satisfaction with Water Wastewater solutions.
Training and Development: Mentor and develop Water Wastewater team members, promoting professional growth and ensuring the team remains current with industry advancements including collaboration with W/WW Regional Managers in PA, MD, NC and other States where currently conducting work.
Innovation and Improvement: Stay abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices, driving continuous improvement and innovation within the Water Wastewater department including partnering with W/WW Regional Managers in PA, MD, NC and other States where we currently conduct work.

You will perform remediation system operation and maintenance (O&M) and environmental field sampling at industrial job sites located primarily in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey. Tools and work truck will be provided. Your Key Responsibilities - Work under the supervision of a technical project manager to complete tasks associated with operation and maintenance of a variety of remediation systems including dual phase extraction, product skimming, hydrocarbon vapor removal, and bioremediation.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot environmental remediation systems and their components including pumps, motors, plumbing, blowers, catalytic oxidizers/converters, air strippers, manifolds, and limited electrical troubleshooting such as control panels.
- Collect samples of environmental media such as system effluent, surface water, groundwater, soil, and vapor for submission to independent laboratories for analysis.
- Position requires strict adherence to health and safety procedures, attention to detail, good work ethic, communication, ability to prioritize tasks, and a passion for high quality workmanship.
- Overtime and travel may be needed but is not routinely required.
Your Capabilities and Credentials

You will perform environmental assessment and remediation tasks to support environmental investigation and remediation projects at sites with contamination by materials such as solvents, petroleum fuels, metals, and PCBs. You can join a dynamic team working on large, technically engaging, and impactful projects located at active and inactive petroleum refining and storage facilities and other industrial facilities.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Organize and manage a variety of environmental investigation and remediation tasks such as ground water monitoring, soil boring/well installations, operation and maintenance, and other activities.
- Responsibilities will include a mix of office and field-based tasks and will include project execution, budgeting, scheduling, contracting, personnel supervision, compliance monitoring, data analysis/reduction, and technical reporting.
- Reporting and data reduction tasks may include preparation of site maps, soil boring logs, well construction diagrams, geologic cross sections, potentiometric surface maps, and possibly groundwater flow models.
- Field-based tasks will include coordination, supervision and execution of work that includes, but is not limited to, collecting soil, sediment, water and air samples; overseeing drilling of soil borings and installation of monitoring wells; performing hydraulic conductivity tests; excavation monitoring; use of instrumentation; overseeing subcontractors; and coordinating complex field tasks with multiple staff and subcontractors. The work may be associated with former manufactured gas plant (MGP) facilities, current/former refineries and petroleum processing/storage facilities, gas stations, as well as other commercial and industrial facilities in urban, rural, or undeveloped locations.
- Conduct Phase I Environmental Assessments and Preliminary Assessments.
- Complete applicable company and client-required health & safety training (including OSHA-required training) and follow health & safety policies and procedures.
- Follow established standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines to complete assignments.
- This position is within a larger environmental services team and will likely require providing support to multiple Stantec offices.
- Travel may be required. Work hours may be irregular and include overnight and weekend work shifts.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This individual will design and/or manage a variety of infrastructure projects (owned by municipalities and local school districts) and will report directly to the Sr. Associate / Municipal Service Department Head. Such projects shall include roads, underground utilities, public buildings, recreational facilities, and land use applications submitted by private developers.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Responsible for acting as the project manager to one or more municipalities or other public agencies. The project manager will act as the single point of contact between the firm and the project. They will supervise and coordinate all projects performed in the firm on behalf of the client, to the client's satisfaction.
Develop or implement engineering solutions to assist clients with improving and maintaining their infrastructure.
Design transportation, utility, facility, or hydraulic systems or structures (as appropriate) using computer assisted design or drawing tools.
Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, or material stress factors to determine design specifications.
Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility.
Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, or other topographical or geologic data.
Conduct studies of traffic patterns or environmental conditions to identify engineering problems and assess potential project impact.
Perform all design activities ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, or other governmental regulations.
Identify environmental risks and develop risk management strategies for projects.
Attend regularly scheduled public meetings (conducted by Municipal clients) in the capacity of Municipal Engineer, or Land Use Board Engineer. Prepare and present public reports on topics such as bid proposals, project status reports and developmental review projects.
Provide technical advice to clients regarding design, construction, or capital program modifications.
Support of the field activities of our construction inspection staff, including providing timely data, shop drawing review, and client coordination.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to draft reports including illustrations, appendices, maps and other attachments to summarize research results.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficient with Stormwater Modeling Software, Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & LICENSES REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university.
Professional License (P.E.) required
Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation to field visits and client meetings as required.
