What Does A Repair Operator Do At Veteran Health Administration

* Baltimore VA Medical Center and/or the Loch Raven campus
* Shift rotation provides continuous coverage and
* engineering support; in addition, to repairing and operating several utility systems.
* Addresses, troubleshoots, stabilizes and/or resolves emergency situations
* requiring Facilities & Engineering Service (FES) involvement on irregular
* shifts; determines the appropriate action(s), initiates and coordinates the
* necessary action(s) to stabilize or fully resolve or repair the situation
* in question by possibly coordinating work with contracted vendors and/or
* notifying other FES employees of the need to report to the facility.
* Performs preventive maintenance according to predetermined routine guidelines
* on various mechanical equipment and systems.
* Resolves non-routine situations, such as locksmith problems and medical
* equipment malfunctions.
* Maintains a detailed log/account of all shift activities including an
* explanation of his/her decision making involved in emergency situations.
* Routinely operates, troubleshoots, maintains and repairs the following utility
* systems: air conditioning systems, pneumatic tube system, garage carbon
* monoxide monitor, medical gas systems, steam distribution system, water
* distribution systems, electrical distribution system, natural gas distribution
* system, vertical transport systems, refrigeration systems and miscellaneous
* communications systems.
* Work Schedule: Rotating shifts to include some nights, weekends, and holidays.

What Does A Repair Operator Do At Veteran Health Administration

* Performs minor and major repairs of utility systems and equipment required to provide heating, ventilation, air conditioning for all buildings, as well as steam used for sterilization and cooking.
* Repairs pipes and systems associated with fuel, steam, water, cooling and heating systems and steam traps.
* Repairs several types of air conditioning, chiller and refrigeration units.
* Works on chillers, boilers, small freezers, refrigerators, window units, exhaust hoods, piping, ductwork, sheet metal work, soldering and brazing.
* Performs inspections of operating equipment, conducts chemical tests on boiler water and chiller water.
* Computes and records data including steam production, makeup water, fuel levels and usage.
* Repairs and or replaces pumps and valves throughout the heating and cooling systems.
* Maintains proper chemistry control of boiler water, condensate, chilled water, and cooling towers through daily testing and adjustment of chemical injections and blow-down rates.[
* Operates all support equipment including deaerator tank, condensate tanks, associated pumps, chemical injection systems, and air-control systems.
* Performs other duties assigned as it relates to the position.
