Job Description The Railcar Repair Technician conducts all aspects of repair and maintenance on tank cars. This person must demonstrate good leadership and team skills while being a safety-conscious person. Railcar Repair - always uses current repair procedures. Conducts railcar inspections to ensure cars are in compliance and performs repairs as necessary. Customer Support - Meets the expectations and requirements of all customers to ensure their satisfaction of work. Clerical - ensures that all necessary invoicing, inspection, work order information is complete. Maintains all certifications, including tank car welding, complete and maintain required certifications, demonstrates strong familiarity with AAR rules and regulations. Other work-related tasks as assigned. General Requirements: High school diploma or GED required. Must have mechanical aptitude, ability to problem-solve and to make decisions. Ability to use hand tools (such as pipe wrenches, pry bars, wrenches, ratchets, and other equipment to chip and grind weld slag or spatter). Must handle and successfully complete basic railcar repairs and inspections. Consistently demonstrate skill in customer relations, using good interpersonal skills and be able to work as a part of a team. Demonstrate welding abilities with an increasing display of performance. Ongoing improvement in skill and knowledge of railcar repairs. Must work in all types of weather conditions. Valid Driver's License A strong emphasis in welding. What You Will Do Travel to customer sites from your home office to perform preventative maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of a wide variety of our manufactured electrical and mechanical equipment. You'll make an impact by: Perform skilled repairs of Volvo Penta Diesel Engines (16 L), Power Solutions International (21.9 L) and Marathon generator ends, as well as various voltage control and synchronizing equipment. Be proficient at learning and utilizing manufacturer specific software to troubleshoot and diagnose engine and control system problems. Facilitate technical support and liaison with equipment manufacturers. Perform scheduled, preventive, or predictive generator maintenance tasks. Perform troubleshooting and repair tasks. Perform periodic inspections to identify maintenance needs. Work in potentially confined areas of high heat and humidity, and cold. Follow company process and procedures for verbal/written communications. Utilize all current technology for communication, documentation, and research. Physical Requirements: Constantly hears and sees; frequently stands, bends, writes by hand, operates a PC, fax machine, answers telephone, climbs, crouches, drives, reaches, stoops, cleans, carries, lifts, pulls, and drags objects weighing up to 100 lbs.; uses measuring equipment, physical dexterity; requires stamina. Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent; minimum two (2) years experience in all phases of complex repair of heavy duty truck and construction equipment; advanced training in automotive and heavy equipment repair and experience in electrical troubleshooting preferred. This position requires 100% on-site work. Must meet tool box requirements. Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record; other state valid driver's license equivalent to Texas Class C with good driving record will be considered.
