The Crane B Mechanic is a journey-level maintenance professional responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining cranes and weight handling equipment at Naval Base Kitsap. Working under general supervision, using hand tools, power tools, and precision testing instruments to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical issues; replace or fabricate components; and ensure safe, reliable crane operations in accordance with manufacturer specifications, Navy PQP requirements, and NAVFAC standards. The role requires strict adherence to safety, quality, and performance standards while supporting mission-critical lifting operations in a secure government environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
Performs crane and other weight handling equipment (WHE) maintenance in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer's specifications.
Performs the work of a journey-level Crane Maintenance Mechanic with general supervision by a more experienced Crane Mechanic.
Repairs and maintains cranes, and trackage, using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring and testing instruments.
Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools, levels, and precision tools.
Repairs or replaces defective parts, using hand tools and power tools.
Installs special functional and structural parts in devices, using hand and power tools.
Starts devices to test their performance.
Lubricates and cleans parts.
Makes and repairs parts as needed.
Repairs electro-mechanical equipment if needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
May perform work in other classifications when incidental work is necessary to the accomplishment of the work assignment. Significant work in another job classification may be required if accompanied by any wage adjustments applicable.

Must obtain and maintain required NAVFAC P-307 crane operator license within 12 months.
Journey-level Maintenance Mechanic
with a minimum of four (4) years' experience on cranes and crane repair to include air, manual, electric overhead, and dockside portals with a capacity range to 120 tons.
Four (4) years' experience
with either fabrication or maintenance of mobile crane electrical and electronic systems or a combination of both.
Must have and maintain hand tools of the trade to perform the normal work of the classifications.
Must have knowledge of, and know how to use, specialized tools needed to perform repair functions.

Ability to work odd shifts and overtime.

**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Troubleshoot, repair and complete preventative maintenance on Ground Service Equipment (both motorized and non-motorized)
+ Work will include diagnostic testing and repair of gas engines, transmissions, suspension and brake systems
+ Troubleshooting and repair of diesel engines, heavy industrial equipment, including large aircraft air conditioners, air start and ground electrical power units
+ Ground Service Equipment Technicians are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT)
+ Schedules are bid and awarded according to seniority
+ Salary increases will be administered according to the current IBT/United contract
+ New employees are required to join the union within ninety (90) days of employment
+ There is an initiation fee for joining the union and subsequent monthly union dues which are set by the Local Lodge

+ 24 months of experience with troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of gas and diesel engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, and motorized equipment

+ Ability to work any shift assigned (nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed) within 24/7 operation
+ Ability to climb and work from ladders, and/or walk for extended periods

+ Computer experience for input and retrieval of data

The employee is frequently required to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, ramps, step stools, etc., move self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces, traverse flat and uneven terrain, work in an overhead position and/or reaching, adjust or move objects of 100+ lbs. in all directions, lifting and placing objects of 100+ lbs., communicate with others to exchange information, repeat motions that may include wrists, hands and/or fingers, operate machinery and power tools, operate motor vehicles and/or golf carts, assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned, identify and inspect objects and areas, exposed to outdoor weather elements (wind, precipitation) including low and high temperatures and exposed to hazardous chemicals, and able to work overtime, weekends, night hours (on-call property emergencies).
The employee occasionally remains in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
License/equipment
Must have reliable transportation due to the emergency on-call requirement.

Basic

At least 4 years of experience in IT.
Preferred

• At least 1 year of experience working in Micro Services based architecture.
