We're looking for a creative voice who can appear on camera for short-form social videos and write smart, witty social copy in a fast-paced environment. Someone who lives and breathes the Internet. This person will work across social platforms to develop ideas, create written and video content, and represent the brand in a way that feels fresh, culturally aware, and unmistakably us. You should be able to flawlessly write a caption, to do a green-screen take of a news post for Tik Tok, to assist with rollout for a cover and asking talent questions for social video. This role will report into both our Head of Social, Lucia Tonelli and Lindsay Peoples, EIC. The ideal candidate understands The Cut's tone - sharp, funny, curious, and culturally fluent - and knows how to translate that voice across platforms without missing a beat. They have great instincts, move quickly, and bring proactive ideas to the table. We're not looking for someone who simply reacts to trends, but someone who anticipates them and knows how to shape a conversation in The Cut's voice.
WHO WE ARE
The Cut, a New York Magazine site, is home to the conversations that matter most to women today - from politics and intersectional feminism to work, money, relationships, mental health and sex - and forward-thinking coverage of fashion and style.
The Cut is part of Vox Media, the leading modern media company. We guide our audience from discovery to obsession. We inspire essential conversations about what's now, what's next, and what's possible.
As a community of journalists and storytellers, business professionals, creators and technologists, we believe it is a moral and business imperative to amplify voices: to cultivate diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our organization and media. This applies to our candidates, our teams, our storytelling, our creative work, and our platforms, products, and partnerships.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
* Work directly with the Head of Social on any social and audience needs across Instagram, Tik Tok, Reddit, Substack, Twitter and FB. Responsible for both making content or putting up content.
* Develop and execute social-first ideas across TikTok, Instagram, and other platforms.
* Serve as an on-camera presence and public-facing voice for our brand's social storytelling.
* Collaborate with the editorial and creative teams on campaigns, launches, and ongoing coverage.
* Track trends, pitch creative concepts, and help evolve our tone and social identity.
* Create custom assets for multiple platforms including Reddit, Substack, X (Twitter), and Facebook.
* Write and produce smart, engaging copy and visuals that reflect The Cut's distinctive tone and perspective.
* Serve as an on-camera representative for The Cut, including potential appearances on morning shows or digital segments.
* Collaborate with editorial, art, and social teams on rollout plans for major packages, covers, and events.
* Assist with cover launches, including social interview questions, talent coordination, and creative packaging.
* Identify and track emerging trends, memes, and conversations across the internet - and turn them into thoughtful, brand-aligned content.
* Help build and refine strategies to grow engagement and reach across new and existing platforms.
* Be proactive in pitching ideas, testing formats, and finding new ways to make The Cut's stories travel.
WHO YOU ARE
* At least 3 years of writing experience, ideally in an online newsroom and experience in social channels for a magazine
* Strong, engaging on-camera presence and writing voice.
* Deep understanding of culture, humor, and conversation online.
* Experience making and editing social content across multiple platforms.
* Flexible, fast, and collaborative - equally comfortable ideating and executing.
* Strong understanding of the Cut sensibility, tone, and audience
* Enthusiasm, creativity, and a sense of fun around finding unique approaches and angles to aggregating news
* Confidence in generating ideas
* Comfort with multi-tasking, including writing, styling, being photographed and representing The Cut at events and meetings
* Experience writing engaging headlines and teasers
If you think you have what it takes, but don't meet every single point in our job posting, please apply with a cover letter to let us know how you believe you can bring your unique skills to the Vox Media team or get in touch! We've hired chefs who became editors, DJs who became UX designers, and sommeliers who became writers.

Progressive Talent Pipeline: NYC Edition
Progressive Talent Pipeline
Reporter job in New York, NY
We appreciate your interest in the Progressive Talent Pipeline: NYC Edition, an open search for people who are ready to enact the affordability agenda in New York City. The Progressive Talent Pipeline (PTP) was founded in 2018, and in the years since hundreds of people who have been through the program have gone on to work in Congress or the Executive Branch of the federal government - working to promote a fairer economy, protect the environment, promote civil rights and civil liberties, oppose war, and more.
After focusing on growing a network ready to work in the federal government, we're launching Progressive Talent Pipeline: NYC Edition to build a resume bank of candidates for New York City government roles. PTP:NYC does not have hiring power for NYC government roles, but will be recommending a slate of candidates. You are encouraged to also apply directly to the transition website.
To submit your materials, please complete the form questions on this page and upload a resumé and answers to the short-answer questions listed below, together as one document. (On mobile, click “Apply” at the bottom of this page to access the form). Your answers to the short-answer questions should be included after your resume in a single document (i.e. if you have a two-page resume, begin your answer to Question 1 on page 3). Once you have finalized that document, you should upload a copy of it where it says "Attach resume" in the form.
We have been able to extend this project and will continue to accept and review submissions on a rolling basis, with a new priority deadline of Sunday, February 1.
Information you share will be retained by PTP. A curated version may be shared with partners consistent with the mission of the PTP.
If you have already been endorsed by the Progressive Talent Pipeline previously and are interested in PTP: NYC, please submit via the internal PTP survey.
If you would like to receive reminders about deadlines, updates about the program, and information about future submission periods, click here to be added to the Progressive Talent Pipeline interest list.
