Through our Agricultural Research Program and our Cooperative Extension Program, we are able to research issues of importance to North Carolina and also provide research-based outreach training to citizens across the state and around the world. Minimum Requirements The applicant should preferably hold a Ph.D. in entomology, or a closely related discipline. Research experience in integrated pest management and insect ecology, including experimental design and statistical analysis is required. Excellent organizational and written and interpersonal communication skills are required. A minimum of three years of doctoral research and/or 1-year post-PhD graduation experience in a university or research center emphasizing applied insect; demonstrated experience in developing proposals and conducting research in insect ecology and pesticide safety; pest management research applicable to an applied ecological focus or work related to small-holder agriculture. Experience in insect biology and rearing is desired. Proven record of peer-reviewed publications and presentation of research. Fieldwork will require having a valid driver's license. A Master's with a proven record of four or more years in the above areas will be considered. Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education The preferred qualification for this position is a Ph.D. in Entomology but a Master's with strong quantitative skills and experience in conducting research on pests of small farm crops, especially pests of leafy indigenous and niche vegetables, ability to conduct studies on plant resistance and the underlying mechanisms will be considered. A good understanding of the relationship between resistance, other bio-intensive approaches, and insecticide use; writing of research proposals and a culture of scientific publications. A strong background is required in an analytical approach to problem-solving in different biological systems, research design, and statistical analysis using different platforms. Some training in molecular and/or biochemical sciences and procedures and previous work experience on amaranth would be an advantage. The Research Associate (RA) at Crown Bioscience North Carolina will support the execution of in vivo research studies, contributing to the advancement of oncology and pharmacology research. The RA will work closely with scientists and senior research staff to carry out experiments, maintain animal models, collect and analyze data, and assist in the development of novel research techniques. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the quality and integrity of preclinical studies. Responsibilities: · Assist study director/scientist and senior research associates (SRA) in the design and execution of research studies, including protocol and IACUC documentation. · Develop, maintain, and manage xenograft models, including patient-derived xenografts (PDX), in rodent models. · Perform in vivo procedures such as tumor cells inoculation/tumor fragment transplantation, tumor measurement, compound dosing (oral, IP, IV, etc.), and biological sample collection (blood, tissue, etc.), etc. · Collect, organize, and interpret experimental data using standard data analysis software and methodologies. · Contribute to the preparation of reports, summaries, and presentations of research findings. · Collaborate with team members across departments and participate in internal/external project meetings to support study execution. · Maintain precise and organized documentation of experimental procedures and results in lab records and study files. · Ensure adherence to animal welfare regulations, research protocols, and laboratory best practices. · Complete additional assignments or tasks as delegated by supervisors. Minimum Requirements: · Bachelor's degree in biology, pharmacology, physiology, animal science, or a related field. · Strong analytical, observational, and problem-solving skills. · Familiarity with in vivo research techniques and experience working with animal models. · Proficiency in data collection and basic data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, GraphPad Prism). · Excellent verbal and written communication skills. · Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Preferred Requirements: · Master's degree in biology or pharmacology is preferred. · Prior hands-on experience with rodent models, including surgical procedures, dosing, and sample collection. · Experience working with patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models is strongly preferred. · Familiarity with regulatory guidelines, including IACUC protocols and animal welfare standards. · Experience contributing to peer-reviewed publications or scientific presentations is a plus.
