This role supports the design, integration, testing, and sustainment of Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) mechanical and hydraulic systems, as well as related shipboard interfaces, components, and support structures. The engineer will work closely with NAVAIR, OEM and French DGA (Direction Générale de l'Armement) stakeholders to ensure electrical design, testing, and configuration align with and customer requirements. This position is hybrid-remote in Lakehurst, NJ. Job Duties: Provide professional mechanical engineering support to the French carrier program, focusing on EMALS/AAG equipment design, integration, and lifecycle sustainment. Conduct feasibility analyses, structural and thermal evaluations, and system performance assessments for shipboard mechanical and hydraulic systems. Develop and review engineering drawings, design data, and interface control documents (ICDs) to ensure compliance with applicable naval standards and international requirements. Support installation planning, equipment layout optimization, and mounting interface design to integrate EMALS and AAG hardware into French carrier ship architecture. Participate in system-level testing, commissioning, and performance verification at test sites and ship integration facilities. Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions related to mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic system failures. Collaborate closely with electrical, systems, and logistics engineers to ensure integrated design solutions and compatibility across all subsystems. Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design change requests, test plans, maintenance procedures, and configuration management records. Support and contribute to Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) activities, including design, integration, and readiness reviews. Provide technical updates, status briefings, and engineering inputs to PMA-251 leadership, FMS case managers, and international customer representatives. Ensure all designs and documentation adhere to DoD, NAVAIR, and French engineering standards and environmental, safety, and quality requirements. Qualifications Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree (BSME) in Mechanical Engineering and eight (8) or more years of relevant experience. Experience in the design, development, and integration of mechanical or hydraulic systems in a maritime, aerospace, or defense environment. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CREO, AutoCAD) and mechanical modeling tools. Understanding of structural design principles, material selection, and mechanical stress analysis. Experience conducting failure analysis and implementing design improvements or corrective actions. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across technical disciplines and engage effectively with U.S. and international partners. Preferred Qualifications: Experience supporting shipboard mechanical systems, such as launch and recovery equipment, hydraulic actuators, or cooling and lubrication systems. Prior involvement in NAVAIR, NAVSEA, or FMS programs - particularly international maritime or carrier-based systems. Familiarity with EMALS, AAG, or related aircraft launch and recovery systems. Working knowledge of Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) processes and documentation standards. Experience with testing and commissioning complex mechanical systems, including performance validation and acceptance testing. Knowledge of ANSI, ASME, MIL-STD, and mechanical design standards. Security Clearance: Active or Interim DoD Secret Clearance required on the first day of employment.
