The Cybersecurity System Analysis Group (CSAG) within NLR's Cybersecurity Research Center performs research cybersecurity research on integrated energy systems with the goal of building resiliency and reducing risk across the energy sector. This is primarily accomplished through engaging with various partners to model and simulate energy systems to conduct research. Research areas include threat to consequence risk analysis, hardware & software security, supply chain security, and testing and evaluation.
Researchers within CSAG have the opportunity to drive NLR research in energy system security and advance a rapidly growing cybersecurity portfolio. Team members work to utilize and build capability of the best-in-class ARIES Cyber Range to deploy applicable largescale test environments, perform hardware-in-the-loop technology experiments, and collaborate with other laboratory and government partners.
CSAG is seeking an experienced senior cybersecurity research and developer professional to lead various cybersecurity research portfolios relating to NLR's ARIES Cyber Range. The successful candidate will demonstrate a deep knowledge of full stack software development, offensive and defensive cybersecurity principals, as well as an ability to accomplish strategic and technical research objectives, directly task and coordinate on-site resources and individual contributors, collaborate with partners from across national labs, the Department of Energy, industry, and national security partners.

About the Role:
We're seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to be the technical authority on our power generation projects. In this role, you'll own the design, integration, and performance of critical mechanical systems that drive our mission to deliver sustainable, high-performance data centers.

What You'll Be Working On:
Lead full lifecycle engineering for power generation systems, from feasibility studies through design, construction, and operation.
Own the integration of turbines, pumps, piping, and rotating equipment at U.S. and international sites.
Review and approve advanced engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with ASME and API codes.
Drive vendor selection and technical bid reviews; approve critical equipment designs and inspections.
Guide technology choices through trade-off analyses to optimize cost, performance, and reliability.
Partner with business development on bids, budgets, and client presentations.
Mentor junior engineers, building technical strength across the team.
Advance decarbonization initiatives including hydrogen co-firing and carbon capture integration.
What You'll Bring to the Team:
B.S. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering required; M.S. preferred.
8+ years in project engineering and management within power generation, oil & gas, or heavy industry.
Proven expertise in gas turbine technology and packaged mechanical systems.
Mastery of ASME and API standards; PE license preferred, PMP a plus.
Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks) and deep knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and rotordynamics.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills with a track record of delivering complex projects.
Willingness to travel up to 25% and alignment with Crusoe's mission and values.

Compensation Range

What You'll Do:
Responsible for optical modeling and sensitivity analysis
Converting all low-level wavefront error (WFE) contributions of opto-mechanical design into WFE budget. Working with the opto-mech designers to map the non-perfect aspects of their designs into rms WFE space from mechanical space including thermal-structural dynamics. Identify terms we cannot quantify at various levels of assembly and determine impact/path forward to ensure design closes with integration.
Responsible for set-up optical analysis results of structural-thermal-optical performance analysis (STOP) with inputs from thermal and structural engineering
Responsible for interpretation and analysis of STOP results to and sensitivity analysis to determine next steps in design iteration
Work with team to understand details of design causing results and iterate to optimize the design
Obscuration analysis for opto-mechanical design and as-built
Line of Sight sensitivity matrix analysis for opto-mechanical design and as-built
Field Angle Map (distortion) analysis for opto-mechanical design and as-built
Develop and perform Monte Carlo WFE prediction from current RSS WFE prediction
Manage WFE budget as design progresses to re-allocate terms which can and cannot meet original allocation
Responsibly recommend re-allocation of WFE margin as design matures
Create optical performance merit function(s) for existing system design
WFE accounting for the 1g ground test “mission" and associated uncertainty, each of the different major alignment step missions, and the post-environmental test mission, in addition to the normal 0g mission
Produce overall predicted system WFE maps, and in working with alignment lead engineer, including step-by-step expectations per alignment plan - Including 1g to 0g analytical prediction
Analyze AIT environmental impacts to alignment measurement error
Your Ideal Skills and Experience:
5-10+ years of experience working optical system analysis and optimization
Familiarity with various optical design and analysis software tools
Deep understanding of optical sensitivities, aberrations and what effects them in mechanical design/implementation
Experience with WFE budgets, allocation and budget management
Experience with STOP modeling and the iterative, multi-disciplinary process
Hands on experience optimizing optical systems to reduce aberrations and WFE
Regularly uses AI tools as essential leverage to accelerate work, improve clarity, and multiply output
