Job Duties:
Provide professional mechanical engineering support to the French carrier program, focusing on EMALS/AAG equipment design, integration, and lifecycle sustainment.
Conduct feasibility analyses, structural and thermal evaluations, and system performance assessments for shipboard mechanical and hydraulic systems.
Develop and review engineering drawings, design data, and interface control documents (ICDs) to ensure compliance with applicable naval standards and international requirements.
Support installation planning, equipment layout optimization, and mounting interface design to integrate EMALS and AAG hardware into French carrier ship architecture.
Participate in system-level testing, commissioning, and performance verification at test sites and ship integration facilities.
Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions related to mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic system failures.
Collaborate closely with electrical, systems, and logistics engineers to ensure integrated design solutions and compatibility across all subsystems.
Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design change requests, test plans, maintenance procedures, and configuration management records.
Support and contribute to Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) activities, including design, integration, and readiness reviews.
Provide technical updates, status briefings, and engineering inputs to PMA-251 leadership, FMS case managers, and international customer representatives.
Ensure all designs and documentation adhere to DoD, NAVAIR, and French engineering standards and environmental, safety, and quality requirements.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree (BSME) in Mechanical Engineering and eight (8) or more years of relevant experience.
Experience in the design, development, and integration of mechanical or hydraulic systems in a maritime, aerospace, or defense environment.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CREO, AutoCAD) and mechanical modeling tools.
Understanding of structural design principles, material selection, and mechanical stress analysis.
Experience conducting failure analysis and implementing design improvements or corrective actions.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across technical disciplines and engage effectively with U.S. and international partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting shipboard mechanical systems, such as launch and recovery equipment, hydraulic actuators, or cooling and lubrication systems.
Prior involvement in NAVAIR, NAVSEA, or FMS programs - particularly international maritime or carrier-based systems.
Familiarity with EMALS, AAG, or related aircraft launch and recovery systems.
Working knowledge of Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) processes and documentation standards.
Experience with testing and commissioning complex mechanical systems, including performance validation and acceptance testing.

We seek a highly motivated and skilled Preform Assembly R&D Engineer to support the company's optical fiber program in Somerset, NJ. Core focus includes - Stack and assemble glass preforms, operate latches, and maintain cleanliness in a cleanroom manufacturing process.
The role offers the opportunity to advance optical fiber processing technology and have a significant impact on new product innovation. The ideal candidates will be responsible for equipment and process design and troubleshooting, and innovate in optical fiber fabrication techniques in collaboration with cross-functional teams at multiple locations. In this role, the candidates will support R&D programs to advance optical fiber science and technology for programs serving the medical, aerospace, and telecommunications industries.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Be a critical asset in leading an R&D program to advance optical fiber technology, including overseeing and contributing to development and innovation in optical fiber fabrication to improve performance, quality, reliability, and scalability.
Investigate the relationship between process parameters, fiber properties, and manufacturing outcomes, and guide technicians and engineers in conducting process trials and experiments to achieve project milestones.
Fabricate and characterize optical fibers to meet performance specifications and project requirements.
Conduct research, propose experiments, and analyze data to validate hypotheses and improve process understanding, particularly for troubleshooting fiber performance and quality as well as equipment and materials issues.
Manage, maintain, and upgrade mechanical and electronic facilities for optical fiber fabrication and testing, including automation, data logging, and fabrication records.
Collaborate with project teams to design and develop fabrication processes and facilities for fiber fabrication, particularly for novel fibers.
Stay informed of, and contribute to, advancements in fiber draw technology and integrate best practices in collaboration with global R&D, manufacturing, and engineering teams.
Communicate and document research findings through detailed technical reports and presentations.
Be a strong team player with openness and willingness to contribute toward group goals and achievements.
Perform other related duties as required to meet project and organizational needs.

Preform Assembly - 2+ years of experience in a materials, mechanical, or manufacturing role. Ability to perform precision assembly work in a cleanroom environment.
General requirement:
Master's (MSc) or Ph.D. in Physics, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a similarly related field.
Proven expertise in developing and optimizing manufacturing processes, preferably in optical fiber or similar manufacturing.
Experience in designing, analyzing and reporting experiments for complex process systems.
Knowledge and Experience Requirements:
Proficiency in data analysis, experimental design, and process optimization methods.
Understanding of high-temperature processes related to glass properties and material flow is an advantage.
Experience with fiber characterization techniques, including optical and mechanical property measurements.

Position Overview:
This position is responsible for developing new products, product components, and production processes to support new product manufacturing. This engineer will be responsible for documenting new processes, creating technical drawings, and training individuals on newly developed processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create and execute product enhancement, next generation, and new product development plans as assigned

• Thorough documentation of all product development activities as well as existing and new process development, inclusive of progressive results, specific equipment parameters and work instructions where appropriate
• As part of the EMS- Environment Management System, will meet compliance obligations and accountability by contributing but not limited to the company's recycling guidelines, proper waste and other environmental performance practices

Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 years of experience
• BS or BEng Required, MS preferred. (Materials or Chemical Engineering is a plus)
• Applied adhesive and polymer experience
• Developed specifications and formulating adhesives
• Designed tests for validating the chemical formulations at development phase and for incoming quality inspections during production.
• Prior new product development experience
• Worked with vendors to produce the materials in volume.
