Manage contracts: For projects designed by consultants by guiding the consultant through the project development process, negotiating contracts, processing vouchers, evaluating performance, resolving contract issues and enforcing terms and conditions of contracts. Policies and Procedures: Assist in the development of policies, procedures and practices reflecting proactive management of the assigned engineering program area.
Process Improvements: Develop, recommend and implement process and policy improvements as needed. Assist in monitoring compliance to ensure conformance to the policy, procedures and state and federal laws and regulations.

Project Management: Manage all aspects of multiple projects to include in-house and consultant designs. Responsible Charge Engineer: Fulfill duties as responsible charge engineer in compliance with policies, procedures and the Code of Virginia.
Roadway Design: Develop roadway designs for a wide range of transportation projects. Attend project scoping's, pre-construction conferences and field visits to gather information and develop design concepts. Take appropriate action to resolve difficult problems. Ensure deliverables to customers are accurate and correct in content. Serve as responsible charge engineer for designs prepared by self or others under his or her direction (signing and sealing).

The Role

Jr Mechanical Engineer
Research and development engineer job in Virginia Beach, VA
with emphasis on electronics hardware design.
This position will work with a lead mechanical engineer as part of a cross-functional team of engineers to design and develop high-performance products. The scope of the position encompasses a range of responsibilities, spanning mechanical design, analysis, and integration of high-performance radio amplifiers, servers, power supplies, loudspeakers, and other electronics. Duties may also include the design, assembly and maintenance of production test fixtures as required. Mechanical engineers will also be responsible for fostering partnerships with suppliers to support engineering development activity.

Essential Functions*:
Create 3D models for design feasibility and interference detection
Produce 2D manufacturing & assembly drawings from 3D models
Interface with outside vendors to source custom machined, sheet metal, die-cut, and injection molded parts
Develop and manage mechanical design packages (models, drawings, BOMs)
Analyze designs to determine suitability for intended purpose and environments, including (but not limited to) thermal and structural with an emphasis on vibration and shock, fatigue, etc.
Perform GD&T tolerance analyses of designs to ensure manufacturability and interchangeability.
Directly interface with members of the product development team to produce high quality, dependable products and resolve technical issues.
Interpret and apply military, industry and customer standards.
Attendance and participation in internal and customer-attended meetings.
Conduct root cause analysis investigations for production and field failures
Provide input into new products, processes, standards, and plans
Provide guidance to production/manufacturing operators in the assembly of production hardware.
Must be able to work onsite in Virginia Beach, VA (not remote)
Education / Training / Skills / Experience:
Qualifications:
Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering with 3-5 years prior experience OR Associates/Engineering Technology degree and 5-7 years prior experience
Fluency with 3D CAD and ability to create complex solid models and assemblies (Creo, Solidworks, Inventor, etc.)
Working knowledge and experience generating 2D dimensional CAD drawings (Creo, Solidworks, Inventor, etc.)
Experience designing machined, sheet metal, or injection-molded parts
Strong analytical and communication skills
Ability to take direction and hunger to learn and grow as an engineer.
Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Powerpoint, Word, etc)
Willing to travel occasionally, both domestically and internationally.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to think in 3D
Experience using PTC applications, including Creo & Windchill PLM software
Experience managing large CAD assemblies (100+ parts)
Experience with electronics packaging and integration (PCB's, connectors, harnesses, buttons, switches, etc.)
Experience with sheet metal & machined-part design
Experience with industry standard coatings & finishes (anodize, powder coat, paint, etc.)
Understanding and experience designing for both military and commercial environments
Knowledge of designing to meet MIL-STD-810 requirements
Self-motivated and ability to work with limited guidance
Strong team player who can incorporate input from others and can generate consensus
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.

Electro Mechanical Engineer
Research and development engineer job in Newport News, VA
Applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems.
This position requires technical ability to lead the development of design, qualification, installation and improvements for the Machinery Control and Monitoring System hardware. The engineer will lead design studies (e.g., root cause analysis, new design development), identify life-cycle cost reductions, conduct laboratory testing, analyze results, and assist with developing integrated technical positions and recommendations for customer approval. The engineer will resolve problems identified during equipment manufacture, installation, operation, and maintenance. The engineer will assist in developing products and provisioning documentation, and maintain technical manuals and drawings. The ideal candidate will possess carrier knowledge, and some level of expertise in power, piping, and machinery design/analysis. The individual shall have graduated from an ABET accredited institution with a BS degree (electrical, mechanical, marine, nuclear or chemical engineering) and have excellent verbal and technical writing skills.
