Applied Materials' Ion Implantation Business Unit is searching for an intern to join our team in summer 2026! Our group works on developing plasma processing tools in ion implantation, dry etch, deposition and material modification. The position will entail the following:
* Perform numerical investigations of elements of semiconductor processing tools using commercial and in-house software.
* Analyze obtained results, draw scientific conclusions, and present at internal meetings.
* Lead small design projects involving beamline and plasma source optimization.
Requirements

Success in the Role: What will you accomplish?
Weeks 1-3: Learn & Integrate
Meet the team and learn about the tablet application and feature requirements.
Set up your development environment with React and TypeScript.
Familiarize yourself with the codebase and relevant documentation.
Learn how to use project management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence) to track tasks and document requirements.
Collaborate with product and software teams to plan your feature and define technical requirements.
Begin initial development and submit your first commits using Git/Bitbucket
Learn the process for code commits, reviews, and deployments.
Weeks 4-6: Build Skills & Iterate
Continue developing and refining your feature using React and TypeScript, iterating based on feedback from the team.
Participate in team meetings to discuss progress and blockers.
Integrate feedback and adjust your feature's functionality, performance, and design.
Submit code for review and incorporate feedback through pull requests.
Conduct internal testing and prepare for full integration with the tablet application.
Weeks 7-10: Deliver & Present
Finalize testing, fix any bugs, and optimize the feature for production.
Ensure your feature works seamlessly within the tablet application.
Prepare for deployment and validate integration.
Present a working demo of your feature to stakeholders and select Executive Team Members, including recommendations for future improvements.
The Work: What type of work will you be doing?
Technical Development
Develop a strong understanding of React, TypeScript, and our tablet codebase, becoming comfortable navigating and contributing to the project.
Implement and consume WebSocket-based messaging to handle real-time data updates and interactions on the front end.
Build scalable components and ensure consistency with design guidelines.
Teamwork & Collaboration
Participate in weekly team meetings.
Build relationships with team members and reach out for guidance when needed.
Collaborate closely with product and development teams to align on goals and deliverables.

Where is the role located?
The location of this role is based onsite in Waltham, MA 5 days per week. Your manager may grant you approval to work remotely up to 2 days per week. Relocation assistance is not offered for this role.
Compensation and Transparency Statement
The base salary range for this full-time position is $20- $27/hr. This range reflects our commitment to pay transparency and equity, in alignment with applicable state laws. TTM is offering a 3 to 6 month Computer Science internship in its Forest Grove, Oregon location. This will allow you to apply basic software development skills to real world problems. The key project in this internship will be to create a web-based segregation of duties (SoD) analysis tool. This will help implement internal controls insuring that no single individual has control over all aspects of a critical task. This principle is essential in IT to enhance security and maintain data integrity. Duties and Responsibilities:

Must be able to work in a moderate industrial noise level environment up to 80 dB (not needed on a consistent basis but will need occasionally)
Must be able to work in a non-smoking facility.
Due to the nature of our business, you will encounter simulated sounds and images of a medically graphic nature. Discretion is advised.
You may be inadvertently exposed to smoke, dust, engine exhaust, coolant mists, organic vapors, sudden loud noises and/or bright flashing lights while working in our facility. Any disabilities relating to the aforementioned will be reasonably accommodated and PPE will be provided as needed.
