Your Opportunity
In this role you will be responsible for understanding consumers' needs and translating them into technical requirements and consumer models to drive business impact. You will leverage critical thinking skills to bring together consumer needs and product possibilities into winning innovation. You will have Products Research leadership responsibility for projects or related programs within the Upstream Innovation Department and Base Business, including defining and executing the consumer methods used for insight understanding, product development, and qualification of projects. You will lead product focused consumer understanding for cross-functional teams, train/coach others in their area of expertise, and may be called upon to review the technical work of others.
You will also be responsible for initiating and leading process capability advances in Product Research. A key focus will be to continue advancing our capability to translate consumer-based needs into design actionability.
The scope of this role covers Pet food, snacks, and other adjacencies and includes multiple brands within the JM Smucker Pet portfolio. Your primary responsibilities will include:
Lead both qualitative and quantitative consumer research to understand consumers' needs and inform product development. This involves study design, fielding, data analysis, translation into technical requirements (design criteria, specifications, consumer models, etc.), and internal sharing of results Advance capability to translate consumer-based needs into design actionability through working with the Product Development, Process Development, and Analytical teams Lead foundational category product learning for fundamental R&D product understanding Define and influence the Products Research methods and activities used for consumer understanding, product development, and qualification of projects Initiate and lead Products Research methods and activities that guide current and future product innovation and technology platforms Accountable for all Products Research deliverables in Technical Readiness reviews for projects that they are involved Integrate internal and external innovation capabilities to deliver key initiatives and drive Products Research capability Leverage Products Research understanding and knowledge to train peers within the R&D organization Actively collaborate and leverage relationships on cross-functional teams to achieve established shared goals or objectives Works independently, guided by functional processes and seeks input or guidance on complex matters Identify and implement Pet R&D work process improvements As appropriate, lead cross-discipline project teams Remote work flexibility (expectation to work in Orrville office following Core Week Schedules and project needs) and travel required by project needs Become a subject matter expert (SME) on the consumers and products related to their specific projects

Overview

The purpose of this role is to support formulation development aspects of pharmaceutical products through formulations optimization to overall candidate progression for clients' products. Applying a working knowledge of formulation science theories, practices and concepts, the incumbent works under the direct supervisions of senior R&D scientists to execute and manage product formulation projects. This role will ensure all SOPs and protocols are maintained and applied.

Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of the R&D Manager, perform formulation and pre-formulation activities in the development and scale-up of formulations including parenteral (solutions and suspensions) and nasal spray products from bench top to pilot-scale to commercial production.
• Manufacture small scale laboratory batches to experiment with formulation creation or enhancements.
• Prepare and write study plans, technical reports, which summarize formulation development work and results.
• Operate all small-scale equipment and perform troubleshooting and calibration of equipment as needed.
• Performs assigned tasks which are needed to maintain the formulation laboratory. Such tasks may include ordering laboratory supplies, calibrating instruments and Hazmat duties.
• Manage time effectively to complete assignments in an expected timeframe.
• Document all experimental work neatly and correctly in a lab notebook in accordance with SOPs. Review test results and notebook to ensure accurate documentation.
• Ensure proper training before performing any experimentation and maintain an up-to-date training record related to all job functions.
• Maintain current knowledge of relevant Quality System Regulations and other regulatory requirements related to research and development (product development, design and safety) to ensure compliance in all research, data collection and reporting activities.
• Maintain quality checks on safety of the laboratory, including biohazards and ensure maintenance of the facilities.
• Must have the ability to work in a team environment.
• Must ensure safety regulations are adhered to in the laboratory.

We are hiring a Bioinformatics Research Scientist for the Probe Bioinformatics Group to join our growing team of world class scientists and engineers. The Probe Bioinformatics team is embedded within the Probe Development group, which is responsible for the identification, validation, and maturation of affinity reagents (probes) that are being used in protein decoding experiments on the Nautilus platform. We are looking for someone who is comfortable interacting with bench scientists as well as fellow-bioinformaticians and software engineers to improve existing data and analytics infrastructure. The successful applicant will also leverage their own ideas and expertise to develop new innovative approaches to propel the development of affinity reagents forward.

This position will report to the Probe Bioinformatics team lead and is located in San Carlos, CA, San Diego, CA, or Seattle, WA. A minimum of three days in office, preferred.

Responsibilities Work closely with experimentalists from affinity reagent discovery teams to answer key research questions with the goal of continuously improving processes and success rates Routinely analyze statistical trends in high-throughput data and perform correlations across experiments to inform direction of research Provide technical expertise for the design of experiments and the resulting data capture and curation steps to maximize knowledge gained Develop automated pipelines for the ingestion, curation, and analysis of experimental data Work collaboratively on shared code bases, contributing personal work following high code quality standards Contribute to Nautilus' self-service reporting infrastructure by creating compelling visualizations based on queried data
