The Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology (NBMG) at the University of Nevada, Reno is seeking applications for a Development Technician 2. **This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding.**
The position will be responsible for field operations in the MAGNET GPS Network that occupies western Nevada, eastern California, and adjacent states. The work includes performing field surveys of GPS stations including moving, setting up and retrieving instruments, downloading data, ensuring accuracy of record keeping and assisting with training students on setting up and deploying new instruments. In addition to field operations, the position will be responsible for maintaining GPS Network instrumentation and equipment by purchasing supplies as needed, performing research to obtain the best materials based on technical needs and cost; file appropriate administrative documents; keep project machinery (e.g. drills, receivers, solar power systems, etc.) in good working order; and keeping the Nevada Geodetic Laboratory spaces organized, clean and secure. Field operations involve travel to and independent problem solving in remote locations throughout the western Great Basin.
The holder of this position will also assist multiple NBMG faculty with their externally funded research projects which involves coordinating and scheduling activities with principal investigators. These projects may include work assisting with warehouse physical sample transport and organization in NBMG offices, field locations, or the Great Basin Science Sample and Records Library. This will include operation of warehouse machinery such as order pickers and pallet jacks. The holder of this position will also maintain the department vehicle pool by coordinating with NBMG administrative staff to ascertain status of maintenance needs approximately monthly.
Required Qualifications
