This role is responsible for enhancing detection coverage and methodology through cyber threat detection research and advanced threat detection prototyping within the SIEM, Security Data Lake, and analytics tools. CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field; or equivalent experience and certifications
6+ years of combined experience in detection engineering, red/purple teaming, security analytics, vulnerability management or cyber threat detection roles
3+ years working with Splunk SIEM (Enterprise Security), CrowdStrike NG‑SIEM, or developing UEBA/behavior‑based threat detections
Hands‑on experience with EDR tools such as CrowdStrike Falcon, MS Defender, Sentinel One, etc., and pen testing/vulnerability assessments
Proven ability to develop advanced detection content including correlation rules, behavioral analytics, and threat hunting queries
Preferred Skills/Experience:
Current advanced information security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, GIAC, OSCP)
Hands on experience with UEBA solutions and building detections leveraging machine learning
Amazon Security Lake experience
Familiarity with cloud security, threat intelligence platforms, and modern security architectures
Experience with scripting/programming (Python, PowerShell, etc.) and automation

Core Responsibilities
Leadership:
Provide mentorship for junior engineers and Detection Engineering resources.
Technical Execution:
Conduct cyber threat detection methodology research aligned with cyber threat detection coverage gaps, threat modeling, and threat intelligence
Partner with CTI Team, Detection Engineering, Security Engineering and Security Architecture to develop behavior‑based detections leveraging AI/ML and other methods
Develop prototype correlation searches, dashboards, reports and alerts within the SIEM, UEBA and Security Data Lake platforms. Partner with CTI Team and Detection Engineering to deploy detections at scale
Collaboration and Communication:
Share detection approaches, recommendations, developed analytics, and other products of detection research with CTI Teams, Detection Engineering and other teams as appropriate to inform detection development
Facilitate cross‑team collaboration sessions to ideate and review detection use cases and detection methodologies
Document and share detection approaches for TTPs, threat models, and monitoring strategies using standard templates and methodologies
Collaborate with CTI Team, Detection Engineering, Security Architecture and Engineering teams to ensure detection coverage aligns with cybersecurity risks and business priorities
Engage and collaborate with other security engineers and architects as needed to keep pace with the evolution of corporate infrastructure and applications and share that knowledge with peers as appropriate
Attend SCRUM and prioritization meetings to review and update deliverables
Drive detection coverage gap improvement and increased detection efficacy
Stay current with emerging threats, adversary tactics, techniques, and detection technologies
Contribute to the development and refinement of detection engineering standards, workflows, and best practices

SUMMARY
The Research Associate will support the ResearchDevelopment and Support Manager and Research Director's work to inform HealthySteps program development and grow the HealthySteps evidence base. Job Description:
The School of Public Affairs at American University is seeking applications for a full-time research associate (who would be appointed at the rank of Research Assistant Professor) to begin in December 2025 or earlier, as possible. The Research Associate will to conduct rigorous and timely policy research and analyses to support the work of the Postsecondary Education & Economics Research (PEER) Center. The PEER Center, led by Professors Jordan Matsudaira at SPA and Stephanie Cellini at George Washington University, generates actionable research to promote more equitable outcomes in education beyond high school. The PEER Center also works to train higher education researchers to more effectively engage with and impact state and federal policy. PEER Center staff engage in rigorous research related to postsecondary costs and finance, accountability, value, and student success; and engage in efforts to connect this work directly to the policymaking process.
The Research Associate will engage in rapid-response analysis to inform timely state and federal policy development, as well as having the opportunity to engage in longer-term research. Candidates should have a master's degree or Ph.D. in economics, public policy, or a related field; at least three years of relevant work experience in federal and/or state higher education policy; and a successful track record of empirical analysis with demonstrated data skills. Familiarity with higher education and workforce data and research (including Stata and/or R), quantitative methods for policy analysis, and strong communication and writing skills are required. An understanding of key legislative and regulatory policy levers and applying academic research to policy problems are a plus.
There is no teaching associated with this position. This is a term faculty, non-tenure track position with the rank of Research Assistant Professor and the title of Research Associate. The initial appointment is for 12 months, and can be renewed annually. The salary range for the research associate position is $70,000-$110,000. The salary for this position will be wholly generated through externally funded research activities. We have a strong preference for candidates willing to work in Washington, D.C., though we will consider applications from qualified researchers located outside D.C.

JOB SUMMARY
The Associate Scientist I, working in an accredited commercial laboratory, is responsible for assisting with the conduct of microbiological assays and associated activities to determine antimicrobial efficacy of household and commercial cleaning products.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Following established SOP's and adhering to state, federal and other accrediting body requirements, collect information about the antimicrobial properties of substances/samples to support the analytical testing needs of our clients for such purposes as quantitative or qualitative analysis, and product development
Perform laboratory housekeeping duties to include autoclaving and glassware processing
Prepare necessary standards, solutions, reagents, media, etc., required for sample analyses
Perform equipment and instrumentation set up
Operate basic and specialized laboratory instrumentation
Prepare and analyze samples
Accurately record observations and data and interpret results
Assists in the development and validation of new analytical methods
Assists in the development of new laboratory procedures
Assist department supervisors and managers with staff training
Sign off on final certificates of analysis
Contribute to writing, editing, and reviewing SOP's
Monitor and address sample backlog issues
Perform peer review of data to ensure accuracy
Maintain accurate, up to date logs, notebooks, and equipment records
Perform necessary laboratory administrative functions such as filing paperwork, photocopying, reviewing of data, and entering data into computerized LIMS
Comply with and promote Personnel, Safety, and Quality Program
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
