Responsibilities: The Research Assistant will work with the Principle Investigator in a very collaborative and team-based atmosphere. The Research Assistant, under the direct supervision of the PI, will be responsible for rodent surgery, running animals for studies, helping with breeding colony and wet lab related activities such as immunofluorescence and microscopy. Other duties include: Assisting the PI in all aspects related research projects, including (but not limited to) maintaining a rodent colony and assisting with data collection. Qualifications: The Research Assistant I position requires a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences or a related field from an accredited college/university and some research experience. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to learn and perform immunolabeling, fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, cryosectioning, and tissue preparation. Ability to learn and perform animal experiments including injections, terminal surgery, survival surgery and organ processing etc. Ability to analyze experimental data and formulate initial conclusions. Our lab focuses on examining the neuroendocrine, immune, neural network, and genomic vulnerabilities that contribute to the clinical course and development of alcohol use disorders (AUDs). The lab uses techniques such as fMRI, ecological momentary assessment (EMA), and hormone and immune assays from blood samples. The research assistant will work closely with Dr. Blaine on all aspects of running the research study including planning and managing study protocols and logistics, collecting data, following up with participants, and scheduling participants. Opportunities for mentorship in conference submissions and manuscript writing will be supported. LIDL's work is deeply collaborative, involving partnerships with federal sponsors; disciplines like coastal engineering, hydrology, ecology, and geomorphology; and local communities, as well as other landscape architects. Currently, we are working on a broad range of coastal infrastructure projects from the Great Lakes south to the Gulf of Mexico, sponsored by funders including the US Army Corps of Engineers' Engineering With Nature program, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Effects of Sea Level Rise program, and the Gulf Research Program of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The methods of our design research typically include fieldwork, mapping, iterative design, and physical and numerical hydrodynamic modeling. This position will include a significant component of work on our largest project, Tidelands (Tidelands - Natural Infrastructure Innovation Project (********************** ), which is sponsored by Engineering With Nature. Tidelands launched in 2023 and is proposed to run for five years. Its aim is to conduct design research into **_what_** forms of natural infrastructure are possible in the nation's bays and estuaries, **_which_** forms are most desirable, and **_how_** to increase innovation in natural infrastructure design. To do this, Tidelands is engaging deeply with EWN , local USACE districts, and a broad range of other stakeholders. This is a 12-month, limited-term position, funded by external sources. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funding and satisfactory performance.
