Establish R&D lab capabilities for synthesis, process development, sample preparation, and testing by evaluating current capabilities and additional needs to support project pipeline. Design experiments based on sound scientific principles and statistical methods to validate technical packages for proof of concept, optimize processes, and develop technical package for manufacturing to support First Time in Spec production. Rapidly produce samples for customer evaluation based on a thorough understanding of plant equipment capabilities and technical requirements Demonstrate expertise in a broad array of analytical instruments and drive new method development to align internal test methods and capabilities with customer methods and protocols. Leverage external labs for specialized test capabilities. Collaborate with key stakeholders in Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Product stewardship to drive successful commercialization. Engage with customers to gather process details, develop experimental plans, communicate project progress, present key findings, results, and support successful qualifications. Create Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions for core lab activities. Assure safe lab operations and compliance with site regulations while ensuring zero recordables. Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Physical Requirements: Bachelor's degree (advanced degree preferred) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science and Engineering Proven hands-on industrial scale-up and technical transfer experience (5+ years) in fine or specialty chemicals or materials industry with subject matter expertise in one or more product categories: Adhesives, Coatings, Surfactants, Dispersions, Specialty Additives, and Reactive Blends. Know-how of product requirements for one or more market segments: CASE, Oil and Gas Chemicals, Plastics/Engineered Polymers, Water Treatment Chemicals, Lubricants, and Personal Care.     The purpose of the Research Assistant position is to conduct research and organize data as a member of a multidisciplinary biomedical engineering team. This role will involve the generation and maintenance of cells for immune-competent microfluidic organs-on-chip and will involve working closely with postdoctoral fellows in the Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering and students and postdocs from the Eshleman School of Pharmacy. Specific activities include the planning, conducting, and evaluation of scientific research and data in a laboratory setting. Central to these activities at the bench is the understanding of the context and implications of the research in order to apply and interpret theoretical knowledge necessary to conduct the research on assigned projects or to assist in research projects. Duties for the position include, but are not limited to: project management, planning, experimental design, assay and methodology development, experimental procedures, data collection and analysis, laboratory management, and contribution to publications and written and oral reports to the sponsor. Work may further include the training and supervision of staff, students, and others in performing specific techniques and/or experiments and instruction and dissemination of results. Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience Masters or PhD in biology, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent. Experience in mammalian cell culture and prior work in an academic or industry research laboratory. Prior experience analyzing data and conducting basic statistical analysis is also necessary. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience Competitive applicants will have experience with laboratory management, including purchasing and inventory management. Experimental competency and experience to succeed in the role include cloning and transfection or transduction of mammalian cells and/or biochemical analysis including PCR and Western Blot. Project management and experience with dissemination, including the preparation of publications and/or reports, and communication of results or instruction of junior staff is preferred.

    The Research Associate will conduct research in their area expertise, publish journal papers, give research presentations and assist in the overseeing and management of all research and lab activities in the IMPACT Lab within the JSNN Intelligent Materials Innovation Laboratory (IMIL) under the supervision of lab PI, Dr. Michael Curry. In addition, the Research Associate will assist the IMPACT Lab PI Dr. Michael L. Curry in the management of student training, research activities, and usage of the Joint School's Institute for Research Technologies (JSIRT), a state-of-the-art facility with tools necessary to accelerate scientific and engineering discoveries and additional related research duties as outlined by the PI. The research associate will be responsible for assisting the PI in the development and submission of data reports and presentations required by the funding agencies that sponsor/support research activities in the IMPACT Lab at JSNN. These reports require data collection and data analysis and are required to publish the data research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at scientific conferences and meetings. The Research Associate will also be responsible for disseminating and participating in educational and outreach activities for K-16 and mentoring undergraduate research scholars. Primary Function of Organizational Unit The Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN), is an academic collaboration between North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T) and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG).
