Qualifications GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS: Education - Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, forensic science* or a related area, AND successful completion of at least nine (9) upper level credit hours covering an understanding of the foundation of DNA analysis, AND successful completion of at least one college course in statistics or population genetics**. *Forensic science programs must be either FEPAC-accredited OR meet the minimum curriculum requirements pertaining to natural science core courses and specialized science courses set forth in the FEPAC Accreditation Standards. **Advanced Placement (AP) credits are accepted. Substitution Note: A Forensic Biology/DNA Analyst license from the Texas Forensic Science Commission may be substituted for the education requirements. Key responsibilities for this position are: * Promote scholarly productivity and faculty professional growth. * Support and expand research initiatives, including grant development and interdisciplinary collaboration. * Ensure compliance with state and national regulatory standards for nursing education. * Represent the School of Nursing in institutional committees, community partnerships, and professional organizations. The Associate Dean of Research will work closely with the Dean, the senior leadership of the School of Nursing, other UTRGV health schools and colleges (e.g., College of Health Professions, School of Medicine, School of Podiatry, School of Optometry and UT Health), and with the broader University. Our faculty members are expected to actively engage in research and scholarship and seek external funding from a variety of local, state, federal, and private funding sources. The Associate Dean of Research will support individual faculty members in their research and scholarship and continue to grow the School of Nursing's research infrastructure and portfolio. The successful applicant will also be expected to teach in our undergraduate and/or graduate nursing programs. These degrees include a traditional BSN and 2nd degree BSN pre-licensure degree, an RN to BSN, along with graduate degrees in Family Nurse Practitioner, a Post-graduate certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health NP and our new Doctor in Nursing Practice (DNP) that started in Fall 2022. Our faculty teach on two campuses, in both Edinburg and in Brownsville. We have full simulation labs that offer state of the art educational opportunities for all our students. We collaborate with the other health science programs at UTRGV on interdisciplinary clinical experiences and work with hospitals throughout the entire Rio Grande Valley. Qualifications for Full Professor: * Earned doctorate in nursing or a closely related field. * Distinguished record of excellence in research, scholarship, teaching, service, community engagement, and academic leadership, consistent with expectations for the rank of Full Professor. * Demonstrated teaching excellence, supported by a sustained record of student mentorship, curriculum innovation, and pedagogical leadership. * Sustained and impactful research portfolio, including peer-reviewed publications in high-quality journals and scholarly contributions recognized at the national level. * Proven success in securing external funding, with a strong record of competitive grant acquisition from federal agencies, foundations, or other major sources. * National recognition as a thought leader or expert in nursing or a related discipline, evidenced by invited presentations, leadership roles in professional organizations, editorial board service, or awards. * Consistent record of peer-reviewed presentations at national and international conferences relevant to nursing or health-related disciplines. * Documented contributions to university and community service, reflecting leadership, collaboration, and strategic impact. * Eligibility for tenure, meeting all institutional criteria required for appointment at the rank of Full Professor. * License to practice in their related field. Puentes provides opportunities to learn beyond the classroom, develop critical skills like time management and communication, and gain confidence in a professional setting. Develop and maintain relationships with the community, university students, university faculty and staff who are a part of the Puentes year 2 workshops and help guide them on any questions they may have regarding the grant and their assignments. Responsible for assisting with seminars, conferences, workshops, campus talks and events under the Puentes grant. Student will learn about Mexican American studies and social justice in our local school, University, and community and will work closely faculty and staff from various departments on helping develop their syllabi's and SWOT (strengths, weakness, opportunities, threats) assignments to help create a sense of belonging in their classrooms and depts/centers. Assist in the management- Students will manage their time as well as assist PI's on research for the grants assigned. Graphic design, students will learn graphic design skills such as creating flyers, promotional items, website design and upkeep as well as how to use Adobe and other UTRGV media tools to maintain the grant.
