Job Overview:
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Forensic Services Division is seeking science majors with an interest in exploring opportunities in the forensic science field. Interns will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on scientific testing while assisting professional forensic scientists in the disciplines of Latent Prints, Microanalysis, Breath Alcohol Calibration, Toxicology, Forensic Chemistry, Forensic Biology/CODIS, and/or Firearms.
In recent years, positions in the field of Forensic Science have become extremely competitive. Internship positions offer recipients the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a Forensic Services Laboratory.
Most work will be conducted within the laboratory. Interns must be willing to work four or five 7.5 hr. days/week for the eight-week program
Qualifications:
Must be a college Junior or Senior majoring in a natural or physical science, forensic science, or other forensic related field. Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Under direct supervision, the researchassistant will be responsible for recruiting research subjects into various clinical research studies and assisting investigators in the collection and analysis of study data. Studies will include a randomized-controlled trial (RCT) of a psychotherapy intervention for persecutory delusions, conducted within the psychotic disorders program. The researchassistant will be responsible for performing psychiatric diagnostic and symptom interviews, administering cognitive tests, and carrying out neuroimaging study protocols. The researchassistant will be an integral part of the study team, will regularly attend clinical meetings and will assist with recruitment in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the development of IRBs, database management, analysis of behavioral and brain imaging data, and assisting with manuscript preparation.
The ideal candidate should be highly motivated and capable of working independently. Individuals interested in mental health, the biological basis of mental disorders, and psychosocial clinical trials are especially encouraged to apply. The position requires a high level of interpersonal skills, organization, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities. It is ideal for individuals interested in pursuing a PhD in clinical psychology (or related field).
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in psychology or a related field (e.g. neuroscience, human development). Experience in a clinical research setting is highly desirable. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) is essential. Experience using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) is preferred. Job Summary:
This role will begin Spring, 2026, and under direct supervision, provide support for a neurosurgical human neurophysiology research laboratory. The lab uses recordings from intracranial electrodes inside and outside of the operating room setting to study neural circuits underlying cognitive and emotional processes, with specific interests in Parkinson's disease nonmotor symptoms, reward processing, and motor control. The Research Analyst will assist in data collection, organization, processing, and analysis. They will help to coordinate, communicate with, and track subjects and maintain IRB protocols. They will assist in general laboratory maintenance and inventory control.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with recruiting research participants
Communicate and coordinate with study participants
Communicate and coordinate with collaborating labs
Assist with data collection: run computer-based tasks with subjects while capturing neurophysiology data, administer study questionnaires, etc
Maintain and organize study data
Assist with data preprocessing and analysis
Create and maintain research database
Assist with creating and maintaining IRB protocols
Help monitor and maintain research equipment and computers
Monitor and maintain inventory control
