The Division of Child Neurology in the Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences at Stanford University seeks a child neurologist or neuroscientist to be appointed at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level in the University Tenure Line (UTL), University Medical Line (UML), or Non-Tenure Line Research (NTLR), depending on qualifications. Desirable applicants should bring expertise in translational research focused on acquired brain injury of childhood, in areas such as stroke, concussion, brain tumors, or neonatal brain injury. Faculty line and rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

+ The predominant criterion for appointment in the **University Tenure Line** is a major commitment to research and teaching.

+ The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the **University Medical Line** shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.

+ The major criterion for appointment for faculty in the **Non-tenure Line (Research)** is evidence of high-level performance as a researcher for whose special knowledge a programmatic need exists.

The successful candidate will have an opportunity to interact across the wide range of clinical, translational, and basic science programs offered at Stanford. The position requires a strong commitment to scholarly work and should include a highly specific focus on laboratory-based translational research and scholarship relevant to injury of the central nervous system resulting from diseases processes of childhood and complementary to the subspecialty foci the Division. Necessary qualifications include a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD, and, if appropriate, Board certification or eligibility from the ABPN (with Special Competence in Child Neurology), eligibility for a California medical license, and suitable clinical, teaching and scholarship experience. A trajectory of obtaining intra- and extramural grants is desirable.

The Division of Child Neurology is a rapidly growing program at Stanford University with over 35 faculty and a large scholarly footprint in basic and translational science, as well as investigator-initiated clinical trials and correlative research, which attracts extramural funding from a full range of federal agencies and foundations. There are well-established subspecialty foci in stroke, traumatic brain injury, neuro-oncology, neonatal neurology, and epilepsy, among multiple other programs.

Responsibilities*

This Research Assistant Professor will take a leading role in production and research of nonthrombogenic coatings and polymers in the ECLS Laboratory. This professor will run specialized research projects related to creating and testing non thrombogenic coatings and devices. This professor will facilitate the writing and perform the work on grants related to the investigation of chemical coating in medical devices. This professor will supervise the work on projects, perform surgeries in anesthetized rabbits to get the data relating to this work. The professor will also author publications and presentations related to this research. Collaborates with outside groups and universities, writing grants, papers. Works between departments to further the scientific goals of both Chemistry and Surgery. Supervises and works to maintain equipment, orders necessary supplies. Actively participates in the compliance of the lab with OSEH and IACUC inspections.

Required Qualifications*

Ph.D. in Biology. Experience in engineering. Experience developing non thrombogenic coatings and/or polymers. Experience with in vivo surgical models. Effective ability to communicate, whilst developing and troubleshooting complex processes and ideas. At least 2 years of experience in animal surgical models (prefer rabbit). Greater than 10 years of research experience.

Desired Qualifications*

Experience with animals and troubleshooting in an animal ICU setting.

The Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education in the School of Education and Human Development at University of Virginia is seeking highly qualified applicants for a Research Assistant Professor position. Work focuses on conducting high quality research related to two studies of how neural networks can be used to identify teaching and learning activities in videos of elementary mathematics and reading/language arts classrooms. This position is a non-tenured eligible Research Assistant Professor position that is term limited from 1 to 3 years and is contingent upon the continuation of grant funding and job performance.
Specific duties for this position include:

* helping design and lead annotation training;

* annotating instructional videos using video data and transcripts of audio data; coordinating the work of other annotators;

* helping to refine the project's annotation tools; attending research team meetings;

* contributing to analysis of the accuracy and efficiency of different neural networks in identifying instructional activities;

* preparing for a data science competition; and

* helping co-write manuscripts for publication.

Incumbents will be expected to:

(a) develop/maintain a line of research associated with these two neural network studies and (

b) development/maintain a line of independent research in a related field (such as teacher preparation, instructional quality, or instructional technology).

Incumbents will also receive support and mentoring in ways to improve research skills, the preparation of grant proposals, and responsible research practices.

Project work begins the summer or fall of 2023 and individuals are expected to begin work in the August/September timeframe. Work will go through August 2024 with the possibility of continuing for an additional 9 to 12 months (through May or August 2025).

Minimum Requirements

Education: Doctoral degree in English education, mathematics education, instructional technology, teacher education, educational policy, data science, or a related field must be conveyed by the start date of the position.

Experience: K-12 teaching experience, experience analyzing K-12 instructional videos, and knowledge of/expertise in data science or learning analytics are preferred. Outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and analytic skills are required.

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
