All interns write biweekly blogs and attend virtual team meetings and webinars. Interns who continue into the fall season assist with capturing, tagging, and measuring monarchs during migration. The candidate will work closely with the PI to conduct experimental projects on Tuberculosis and HIV/SIV pathogenesis in a mouse and nonhuman primate model (NHP) in the BSL3 high containment and BSL2 laboratory. Full-time Description The Research Assistant/Associate will assist Staff Scientists, Postdocs and other members of the TB team with day to day tasks that may include performing research and data management. Perform immunology experiments, such as tissue culture, blood processing, and isolation of lymphocytes and macrophages. Support laboratory operations by preparing reagents, maintaining inventory, stocking supplies, and assisting with shipping/receiving non-infectious or biohazard materials. Perform microbiology experiments, including media preparation, bacterial culturing, and strain modification. Requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. General knowledge of BSL2 biosafety protocols is required; prior BSL3 experience is preferred but not mandatory. Working Environment: Work involves handling BSL2 and BSL3 pathogens, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis, SARS-CoV-2, and SIV. Requires moderate physical activity such as standing, walking, and handling equipment. Vaccinations may be required, and participation in medical monitoring is mandatory.
