The Injury Prevention Research Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a postdoctoral position. This is a full-time research position. The successful candidate would join a research team conducting multiple epidemiologic research studies related to suicide and overdose prevention involving big data linkages. The Post-Doctoral Research Associate's primary responsibility will be to collaborate on research leading to peer-reviewed publications, primarily through secondary data analysis of large health insurance claims data, electronic medical records, death records and other large secondary datasets. This Postdoctoral Research Associate will also supervise graduate and undergraduate students and will be given resources and mentoring to develop their own research in the field of injury and violence prevention. Research will be performed in a team environment and the application will be provided with a variety of procedures and techniques previously outlined by established protocols and other scientific data related to the production of tissue engineered constructs. The applicant will provide direction and guidance to other technicians, trainees and personnel in the laboratory. Immunology, engineering, and cell biology experience is a plus. CHARACTERISTIC WORK Confer with principal investigator and collaborators in the planning, developing, and implementation of research projects; develop control procedures for test standardization and clinical product manufacturing processes. Develop experimental techniques for specimen and tissue analyses utilized in complex laboratory procedures. Review scientific journals, abstracts, and other research literature to obtain or verify additional information used in the design and development of original procedures or techniques related to the research/clinical projects. Prepare detailed reports on the results of experiments; discuss with principal investigator and collaborators the interpretation of the results and collaborate in the preparation of scientific manuscripts and reports for publication. Supervise and coordinate the operation, training, and staffing of laboratory activities; maintain facilities and equipment supplies; develop and establish laboratory work procedures, methods, and policies; schedule and determine work priorities, and ensure laboratory compliance to procedures and regulations Prepare detailed plans for large scale, collaborative studies, including monitoring, treatments, analysis data, recording and reporting. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS University graduation with a major in the biological sciences and four years of related research experience, whichever applicable for position to be filled. This is a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in cancer biology and immuno-oncology in the Pruitt lab at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Postdoc will be involved in leading a project that examines the effect of Wnt signaling in cancer models and the impact on the tumor immune microenvironment. The candidate will also be involved in characterizing how tumor-intrinsic Wnt signaling and tumor-intrinsic Dishevelled ( DVL ) proteins affect immune cell infiltration into tumors. Research will include in vitro assays such as chromatin immunoprecipitation, RT- PCR , IHC , Flow cytometry, IF, and western blotting and in vivo assays involving tumor growth in mouse models.
