Research Scientist ADNET seeks to hire a Research Scientist to support the Clouds and Earth's Radiant Energy System (CERES) Project Instrument Working group at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) under the RSES (Research, Science, and Engineering Services) Contract. CERES provides satellite-based observations of Earth Radiation Budget (ERB) and clouds. It uses measurements from CERES instruments flying on several NASA satellites along with data from other instruments to produce a comprehensive set of ERB data products for climate, weather and applied science research. About VMASCThe Virginia Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation Center (VMASC), established in 1997, is Old Dominion University's Office of Enterprise Research and Innovation's largest research enterprise. Located in Suffolk, Virginia, VMASC's researchers span multiple disciplines such as data science, operations research, decision analysis, social science, applied mathematics, instructional systems design, medical research, and modeling and simulation. Our researchers and project scientists work with the most advanced tools, technologies, and methods across 11 research labs and construct solutions in our 60,000 sq. ft. cutting-edge facility. Research Assistant I
Research Associate Job 19 miles from Hampton
A research assistant is available in the addiction lab, Department of Pathology and Anatomy. The Research Assistant will perform both lab managerial tasks as well as basic scientific research in the field of neuroscience. Research will focus on the mechanisms responsible microglial activation induced by abused drug and HIV proteins using in vitro assays and mouse models. Studies may involve mouse brain surgery.
Responsibilities
Assists in lab experiments under direct supervision.
Works with mice, set up crosses and performs genotyping
Perform cell culture, laboratory bench work, molecular biology and biochemical experiments.
Prepares chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
Maintains inventory of lab supplies and orders supplies as needed for experiments
Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.
Keep detailed laboratory records and research data in an organized manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a Biological Science or related field (biochemistry, neuroscience) from a four-year college or university. Master degree is preferred.
Experience preferred in working with mice and performing basic molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid isolation, PCR, western blotting, cell culture. Some proficiency with computers is desired. Ability to work well in a team, keep detailed record keeping and solve basic mathematical equations is required.
