Job Purpose: As a member of the Regulatory Sciences team, act as Research Associate for PCR molecular analyses for regulatory biosafety studies. Responsible for following experimental and laboratory procedures according to agreed upon protocols, for collecting, organizing and summarizing study data and for providing support to other laboratory personnel. Duties/Responsibilities 1. Provide molecular analysis support for Regulatory Sciences and Registration (DNA extraction, sample weighing, control generation, master mix preparation, PCR plate set up) a. Maintain laboratory resources, e.g., inventory, safety, calibrations, etc. 2. Responsible for adherence to Good Laboratory Practices within the laboratory. a. Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), methods and worksheets for analytical procedures and equipment such as sample weighing, DNA extraction, reagent preparation, genomic controls and PCR. b. Responsible for equipment maintenance logs (daily, routine and non-routine) for the laboratory. 3. Support Regulatory studies related to regulatory trait package preparation. a. Coordinate required research, greenhouse and laboratory efforts to obtain necessary materials (i.e. tissues, reagents, labware) for generation of required data. b. Document and prepare study records.

BASIC FUNCTION Provide support for the general operations of the diagnostic and research divisions of the VA Diagnostic Immunology Lab. Support includes conducting high complexity Lab Developed Tests (LDTs), collecting and analyzing results and performing operational duties associated with the laboratory (bench and field). Key areas of responsibilities include conducting testing of human samples, collecting, analyzing and summarizing data, preparing reports, administrative and project management, facilities and equipment management, and supervision/staffing. KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Research: * Perform research activities in the VA Diagnostic Immunology Lab. * Research literature as requested. * Adapt and perform protocols from the literature. * Critically review literature for the purposes of furthering the research and developing new hypotheses in conjunction with the principal investigator Experiments, Investigations, Evaluations: * Perform basic and complex procedures and techniques as outlined in laboratory protocols, assure fidelity to protocols, may propose modifications to protocols and/or assist in the design of new protocols. * Perform cytotoxicity assays.
