OR Education that has been evaluated by an acceptable credentialing agency and deemed equivalent to a US Bachelors degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology. OR Meets the educational requirements of a Medical Laboratory Technician II (MLT-II). Experience 3 years of full-time primary laboratory experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) in moderate/high complexity testing for the specific section/area of responsibility required. 5 years of full-time primary laboratory experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) in moderate/high complexity testing for the specific section/area of responsibility preferred. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications Must possess Certification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW/HHS. Full-time Description The Sharan Lab at Texas Biomedical Research Institute is looking to hire an enthusiastic, responsible and skilled full-time Research Assistant or Research Associate. The candidate will work closely with the PI to conduct experimental projects on Tuberculosis and HIV/SIV pathogenesis in a mouse and nonhuman primate model (NHP) in the BSL3 high containment and BSL2 laboratory. The candidate is expected to keep abreast of the techniques and methods being employed in the lab, perform protocol standardizations if needed. The candidate will collect, prepare and report the results of the experiment and may provide supervision and guidance to junior technicians as needed. Work Duties: Collects, prepares, analyzes and evaluates specimens from mice and NHPs. Processes blood for PBMC collection and bronchoalveolar lavage samples from mice and NHPs. Prepares drug dosages for treatment of mice and NHPs. Operates laboratory equipment, contributes to laboratory maintenance. Orders lab supplies, keeps inventory of samples and reagents. Assists in small animal surgery and necropsies. Prepares media plates, counts bacterial CFUs. Participates in training sessions and workshops as needed. Our Ideal Candidate: 1 - 2 years' experience in standard lab techniques such as preparation of PBMCs from blood, processing animal tissues, preparation of growth media, autoclaving reagents. Flow cytometry experience is not a must but highly desirable. At least 2 years' experience of working in a biology/ animal model/ immunology research laboratory. A bachelor's degree or higher in biology, biomedical sciences. 1 -2 years' experience in working with NHPs or small animal model in BSL3 lab setting. Strong leadership and teamwork qualities. Full-time Description Texas Biomedical Research Institute is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Research Associate to join a dynamic team focused on human immunology, infectious disease research, and high-throughput technologies. The successful candidate will support laboratory activities in both conventional and biocontainment (BSL-2/3) settings, contributing to cutting-edge research programs that include: Emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases such as malaria and H5N1 avian influenza (bird flu) Studies in fundamental human immunology Antibody repertoire profiling and vaccine evaluation Development and validation of high-throughput molecular and serological assays These efforts support Texas Biomed's mission to eliminate the threat of infectious diseases through innovative science and collaborative research. The Role: Independently set up and operate scientific equipment for polymerase chain reaction (PCR), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), next-generation sequencing (NGS), and B and T lymphocyte cell-based studies. Work safely under BSL-2 conditions and assist with BSL-3 studies involving small animal models and infectious agents when required. In collaboration with team members, generate summaries, interim reports, and technical documentation for internal and sponsor review. Contribute to team-wide laboratory activities, supporting cross-functional goals. Perform other duties as assigned. Our Ideal Candidate: Master's degree in a relevant life sciences discipline with =2 years of applicable experience, or Bachelor's degree with =4 years of hands-on experience in molecular biology or infectious disease research. Experience with BSL-2+ biosafety protocols required; BSL-3 experience preferred. An interest in career growth to BSL-4 high-containment studies is a plus. Proficiency in immunology techniques, including ELISpot, ELISA, multicolor flow cytometry, and tissue culture. Experience performing and assisting team members in molecular biology experiments, including isolation and purification of DNA/RNA, PCR, and quantitative RT-PCR. Experience performing and assisting in immunology experiments, including tissue culture, blood processing, and isolation of lymphocytes. Experience in in-vitro and ex-vivo cell-based assays (e.g., plaque assays) is desirable. Familiarity with a variety of animal models for infectious disease research. Comfort with standard data analysis. Strong organizational, recordkeeping, and problem-solving skills. Ability to follow SOPs rigorously and flag deviations. Experience summarizing assay performance or writing interim reports. How to Apply? Provides oversight of student workers with the Office of Research and Graduate Studies; Performs other duties as assigned. The Research and Graduate Support Specialist is responsible for providing professional-level support services, assistance and information to university stakeholders on confidential student matters. Position serves as a key administrative member of the Office of Research and Graduate Studies. The Research and Graduate Support Specialist reports to the Director of Graduate Studies and the Director of Research and Sponsored Projects Operations. Physical Demands Ability to lift up to 25lbs for table set-up/tear-down at events. Ability to reach overhead, bend, squat to retrieve events materials. Ability to push/pull equipment carts holding up to 45 lbs. Ability to actively engage in events for extended periods of time. Ability to regularly move about campus and event venues to actively engage faculty, staff, and potential/current students, as well as attend meetings on and off campus. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree; Proficiency in social media outreach; Experience in a graduate student support office or other relevant environment in higher education; Experience in higher education administration, particularly working with student information and inquiries; Experience with Banner applications, ARGOS , and form builders.
