A parttime (2-15 hours per week) Research Data Analyst - ideally someone trained/experienced in statistical genetics and/or computational biology/neuroscience - is being recruited for a VA Portland Healthcare System (VAPORHCS)-based research team that examines the genetics, genomics, and genetic epidemiology of neurological disease (i.e., epilepsy, stroke and traumatic brain injury) using data from the VA's Million Veteran Program (MVP) genetic research database.
The incumbent will possess independent problem-solving skills, a high level of reliability and self-motivation, established organizational skills (including genetic database searching and data management), computer coding experience (e.g. Python, R, SQL, PLINK) excellent interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work in a complex and multidisciplinary national research team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform phenotyping analysis of healthcare data from adults with epilepsy, stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI) including deep clinical phenotyping of individuals based on electronic health record (EHR) and survey data using Human Phenotype Ontology (HPO) terminology and NIH's Common Data Elements (CDEs); statistical/computational phenotyping via utilization and validation of healthcare administrative algorithms and machine-learning models; and systematic databasing of phenotypic data.
Perform genetic/genomic analysis of genotyping data (i.e. microarray and whole genome sequencing [WGS] results) from adults with epilepsy, stroke, TBI including: analyzing genetic information to determine the risk levels for specific genetic conditions; genotype-phenotype correlations; determining if genetic variants could be responsible for phenotypes via genetic database-based research (e.g., ClinVar, OMIM, Varisome, etc.); and systematically databasing genetic data.
Recordkeeping, data organization and data management (e.g., study records, data entry into databases, data checking and cleaning, data harmonization, data summary, data analysis, and data graphing) on secure virtual platforms behind the VA firewall.
Study team member responsibilities: regular research team meeting attendance; dissemination of study results in the form of writing/editing/preparing abstracts, posters, and manuscripts; writing grant applications; and participation in conferences and professional associations to upgrade skills and learn about new developments in genetics, genomics, and genetic epidemiology.
JOB DUTIES
Technical duties (specific to those listed above) include phenotype-genotype correlation studies, electronic health record-based research methods, genetic database searching and management, statistical and/or bioinformatic analysis techniques, applying machine-learning algorithms to healthcare data, and a clinical understanding of neurological disease and gene-environment interactions.

EDUCATION

The Johnson lab within the department of Molecular Microbiology & Immunology (MMI) focuses on two human herpes viruses: herpes simplex virus (HSV) and human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). The lab studies interactions between these viruses and host cells, the immune system, and viral pathogenesis.
This position will assist in the investigation of how human cytomegalovirus infects and spreads in relevant human cell types with the focus on characterizing virus membrane glycoprotein function and interactions with host cell receptor molecules. The position will also involve performing virology based assays using a variety of mammalian cell lines in a tissue culture model system. Additional duties will include characterizing virus and host cell proteins by western blot, ELISA assays, immunofluorescent microscopy and other standard techniques. This position will also entail performing additional molecular biology techniques such as recombinant DNA technology, protein expression and purification, antibody production, and preparation of live viruses. Some lab management duties such as administration of IACUC protocols, general lab maintenance, ordering, and reagent preparation will also be required.

The individual hired for this position will serve as research faculty and lab manager for the Dotter Memorial Research Laboratory at the Dotter Institute. The role of the lab manager is to carry out and facilitate the educational and research projects at the Institute. This will be done under the supervision of the Director of Research, and the Director of the Institute overall. Activities include coordination of clinical and translational lab research, including protocol design, preparation and execution.
The Dotter research lab offers additional educational workshops involving an animal model for which the lab manager is responsible to organize and conduct. We also support industry and academic collaborators by providing translational research support, device prototype testing, and running educational/teaching labs. The Division of Vascular Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is offering clinical outcomes research fellowships to qualified candidates interested in an academic career in vascular surgery. Qualified candidates will benefit from extensive infrastructure and resources at OHSU Department of Surgery and the Knight Cardiovascular Institute. This includes established clinical databases, a Biostatistical core, and IT services. The successful clinical research fellow(s) will be integrated within the clinical surgical team to perform high-quality data analysis of relevant vascular surgical questions.
This position will primarily work on vascular surgery projects with a special focus on peripheral artery disease, graft infections, vascular trauma, and vascular lab topics and other projects as assigned. This will include screening, consenting, and collecting data and biospecimens; entering or uploading data into the REDCap database; managing the database and updating it as needed; organizing and analyzing data for abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts. This person will assist with other papers, chapters, and grants when assigned. They will present at local and national scientific meetings.
Successful candidates will have:
Prior clinical vascular or general surgery training in the US, Canada, or internationally.

Applicants must be medical graduates with vascular or general surgery clinical training completed or in progress. Successful candidates would receive salary and benefits through OHSU. This is a 1 year position.
Function/Duties of Position
Clinical Research Coordination: screen, consent, collect data, and complete study visits as outlined in study protocols
Data analysis: be able to complete basic analysis of data; be able to convey statistical needs to team; work with department biostatistician on more complex analysis;
Database Management: build and maintain REDCap databases; abstract data from electronic medical record; upload data provided by system application analyst
Writing: write and submit abstracts to scientific meetings; present data at meetings; organize and write manuscripts and chapters
Grant applications: work with faculty to submit grants, includes writing, organizing, and submitting to department GCA required forms and documents
Support OHSU Research Regulation & Policies Compliance
Other Research Related Tasks Assigned: assisting with other department and division research activities when needed
Required Qualifications
Doctorate Degree in relevant field;
Experience in data abstraction from electronic health records
Basic statistical analysis and use of software programs such as SPSS, R, SAS, or STATA
Self-starter with strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize work demands
Excellent oral and written communication skills

This position is a Monday - Friday position with a hybrid (office, clinic, home) work schedule. Job Description
Molecular Vision Lab is seeking laboratory researchassociates/ assistants to join our rapidly growing clinical services laboratory.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Carefully execute detailed standard operating procedures in a CLIA certified laboratory including sequence library preparation, hybridization assays, and DNA quality analysis.
· Implement quality management procedures, LIMS tracking, data entry, protocol/process deviation documentation.
· Carry out DNA molecular methods including DNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, dd PCR and NGS.

The Senior Research Assistant I (SRA I) will assist in the technical management of two transportation data projects that archive diverse transportation data sources and provide access and analysis through a website to transportation professionals. The SRA I will also help with:

The two transportation data projects are PORTAL and BikePed Portal. PORTAL is the official Portland-Vancouver Metropolitan regional transportation data archive. It provides a centralized database that facilitates the collection, archiving, and sharing of data and information for the region's transportation agencies. Data sources include 20- second granularity loop detector data from freeways throughout the Portland-Vancouver area, arterial signals, travel time, freight volumes, transit, incidence, VAS/VMS message, and weather data. Many of these data sources are received by PORTAL in real-time. BikePed Portal is a national non-motorized count data archive. Like PORTAL it is a centralized database that collects, archives, and shares data for public agencies, researchers, educators, and other curious members of the public.
Managing these two projects, and future transportation data projects, require that the SRA I assist with the management and performance of all back-end development. Some front-end experience is desirable but not immediately necessary. PORTAL and BikePed Portal use PostgreSQL to store data. The 28+ terabyte database consists of hundreds of tables varying in sizes from a few gigabytes to a few terabytes. The data comes from approximately 10 transportation agencies and is transferred via API and secure data transfer methods. The SRA I will assist with managing or maintaining the data feeds and the data in the database, and help build and design any additional data architecture needed to continue current and future data projects. In addition to the database, PORTAL and BikePed Portal provide web sites where users can access and visualize the data so some front-end experience or familiarity is desirable but not necessary. We expect this position to grow with increasing responsibility.
