Great Gull Island (GGI), NY, is the breeding site for 35% of the federally endangered Roseate Terns (~2,300 pairs) breeding the northwest Atlantic population, and the second largest colony (~11,000 pairs) of Common Tern on the east coast of North America. The Rubega Lab in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology department has a grant to enhance nesting habitat for terns on GGI and create a biosecurity plan to protect the colony from predatory mammals, disease, and invasive plant species. The Program Manager (Research Assistant 3) will supervise all aspects of this project. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Organizing and managing the logistics of a nesting habitat restoration project for Common and Roseate Terns breeding on Great Gull Island. Implementing a Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) for all projects related to this habitat restoration project. Ordering and supervising the transportation of supplies to the island. Coordinating with the herbicide contractor and crew for twice-yearly application of herbicides to control invasive plant species on the island. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's degree in turfgrass science, plant science, or a related field with at least one year of relevant experience; OR Associate's degree with three or more years of experience; OR five or more years of experience in a related field. * Knowledge and experience in growing and maintaining high-quality turfgrass areas such as sports fields, golf courses, or residential and commercial properties, or field research plots. * Experience in Integrated Pest Management for control of turfgrass pests. * Experience identifying turfgrass species and diagnose common weed, insect, and disease problems. * Demonstrated experience with calibration, application, maintenance, and repair of sprayers and broadcast spreaders, and with computers and electronic record keeping. * Current Connecticut Governmental Commercial Junior Operator Certification pesticide license or ability to acquire Certification within one month of hire. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Experience operating and repairing high-volume in-ground irrigation systems. * Experience using instruments such as TDR probes or visual symptoms to scout turf for moisture stress or disease, weed, and insect incidence. * Experience with specialized turfgrass equipment operation and maintenance including reel-mowers and reel grinding equipment. * Supervisory or leadership experience. APPOINTMENT TERMS This is a full-time, twelve-month UCPEA staff position, and is designated as an ad-hoc emergency support services/essential position. As such, the candidate must be willing and able to work during closures/delayed openings due to inclement weather or for significant events that affect campus operations. The standard workweek for this role is 35 hours, 7 hours per day (8:00 AM to 3:30 PM), Monday through Friday. However, this schedule may change to meet operational and staffing needs. Position Description: The successful candidate will provide quantitative bioanalytical support using LC-MS/MS for a variety of high throughput in vitro ADME profiling assays. In this hands-on role, the candidate will perform sample analyses by mass spectrometry, and will review, interpret and report results. Instruments and software from various vendors including Sciex (Analyst) and Thermo (Excalibur) will be used along with custom internal data processing software to acquire data and process results. The successful candidate will also troubleshoot HPLC and MS instrumentation as necessary. Position Requirements: BS or MS in chemistry, with specialization in analytical chemistry preferred, along with 1 to 5 years of relevant pharmaceutical experience is required. Training or experience in mass spectrometry and separation science, as well as hands-on experience in quantitative LC-MS/MS analysis are desired.
