The Bioinformatics Research Scientist is responsible for designing, developing, improving, modifying, and operating data analysis pipelines. Manages projects and coordinates other efforts related to analysis and infrastructure as directed. Overview: The Center for Applied Bioinformatics (CAB) is looking for a highly motivated and creative individual to join our Genetics Group. As a Bioinformatics Research Scientist, your responsibilities will involve running routine genetics pipelines and developing new, faster and more efficient pipelines under the direction of Dr. Evadnie Rampersaud (Genetics Group Lead). We are seeking candidates with expertise in computer science, and related programming fields. Knowledge and training in computational biology, genetics, or molecular biology is useful. In this position you will be part of a fast pace group working with leading clinical and research scientist on key projects including focus on cancer epidemiology and genetics, and neurological diseases. You will be highly integrated into a larger Center with Transcriptomics and Epigenetics Groups, which will allow for educational and cross-training opportunities. Our group works closely with investigators in St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center, the first and only NCI designated cancer center devoted to children, in order to discover and understand the genetics and biology of pediatric cancers. Our projects extend to nonmalignant hematological disorders such as the Sickle Genome Project and related blood disorders and neurological diseases. We have close collaboration with the Department of Biostatistics for expanding methodological approaches. Applicants should have substantial training in computer science and programming languages. Some understanding of molecular biology or related field would be useful. Knowledge of web design and/or Cloud interface development would be highly desired. Responsibilities: Work with CAB Genetics group to learn and provide routine pipeline assistance for genetic studies. Assist with preparation of project reports, presentations, and manuscript of analysis results, including detailed description of approaches. Participate in the development of operations and procedures for the collection, editing, verification and management of data. Work collaboratively with guidance from scientists within the CAB Genetics group. Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree or PHD is preferred. Minimum Experience: Bioinformatics Research Scientist Seven (7) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required. Five (5) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Master's degree. Two (2) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a PhD. In 2010, the Memphis Zoo joined forces with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service, and Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to release zoo-bred Louisiana pinesnakes onto restored habitat. The Bioinformatics Research Scientist is responsible for designing, developing, improving, modifying, and operating data analysis pipelines. Bluesky Tracking the Immune Repertoire of Tumor Lymphocytes (TIRTL) is seeking a Bioinformatics Research Scientist with experience in High Throughput Sequencing data analysis. Experience in immune repertoire data analysis is preferred, but not required. The aim of the TIRTL initiative is to establish a research lab responsible for a) sample selection and study design, b) experimental protocols for data generation, and c) data analysis specifically for lymphocyte TCR and BCR repertoire sequencing. In parallel to the clinical genomics pipeline, we will use excess primary tumor samples to perform targeted sequencing of tumor-associated B cell, alpha-beta T cell, and gamma-delta T cell repertoires. Using a combination of bioinformatic and computational approaches, we will integrate these data with the mutation profiles of the tumors. The objectives of the analysis include: 1) Correlation of antigen receptor features with tumor mutations; 2) identification of anti-tumor specific responses; 3) identification of tumorigenic cell specificities that promote tumor development and growth; and 4) identification of correlates of therapeutic efficacy or failure. In addition to these core objectives, we will extend the pipeline to include analysis of valuable and clinically relevant sample sets such as HCT patients experiencing GVH, and aplastic anemia subjects. These objectives align with multiple elements of our strategic plan, including developing immunotherapy programs and expanding data science initiatives.
