The company is currently working on technologies in the fields of atmospheric water harvesting and CO2 capture. Location: Irvine, California. Contract type: Full-time, permanent position. Salary: $140k - 160k Roles and Responsibilities: Work with and report to the head of Product Engineering to achieve the department goals of scaling up commercial-grade MOF/COF-based atmospheric water harvesting technology. Collaborate closely with R&D scientists to process the technical and functional specifications of MOF/COFs coming out of the R&D. Responsible for the system-level design and development of the heat management system, including optimization of heat exchangers, thermal storage, optimization of fluids transfer, pumps, fans, and filters that will operate on the MOF/COFs. Design, plan and scale up the technologies from prototype stage to commercial stage. Identify and optimize critical component and system-level parameters to improve overall product performance in terms of production capacity, energy efficiency, lifetime (reliability/durability), yield, cost, safety, and operation. Evaluate and manage sourcing of materials and components, taking into consideration the whole process from sourcing to final assembly and packaging. Help set up the QC/QA processes and procedures for production. Maintain an electronic notebook detailing all observations and measurements. Contribute to the intellectual property of the company by writing and participating in invention disclosures. Perform periodic reporting to management and participate in technical meetings. Qualifications: PhD in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or similar field from an accredited institution, along with a demonstrated record of achievement in research. Position Description The Research Associate position is available immediately for highly motivated individuals to join Dr. Nooshin Estakhri's research group. Dr. Estakhri's research interests focus on two main themes: (1) investigating new phenomena and their physical dynamics in the scattering of classical and quantum fields from complex disordered structures and their significance in the realm of quantum optics; as well as (2) new and timely topics in the area of quantum information science which includes proposing and testing quantum control protocols and techniques for solid-state quantum processors particularly quantum dot spin-based structures. The Research Associate will conduct independent research in the areas of quantum optics and quantum information science. The research will include: Performing analytical modeling and numerical simulations on complex disordered nanophotonic structures, Investigating new phenomena and their physical dynamics in the scattering of classical and quantum fields from complex disordered structures and their significance in the realm of quantum optics, Analyzing collected data from numerical simulations and experimental measurements, Devising and implementing appropriate measurement techniques (if applicable), Working on quantum control techniques and gate designs (includes programming) for spin-based quantum processors for quantum computing, Publishing results in scientific journals and presenting results at national and/or international conferences, Working alongside principal investigator to mentor undergraduate and graduate student researchers. Projects will be related to ongoing research and expanding beyond those ideas will be the primary goal. This is an exempt Academic Professional position.
