This role will plan, organize, and execute research and development work in support of AHF's innovation and product strategies. S/he will lead technical projects and work within teams to generate concepts, determine technical feasibility of concepts for innovative flooring products and installation/maintenance products. Balloon-borne experiments like the Payload for Ultra-high-Energy Observations (PUEO) search for neutrino interactions in the ice and upgoing tau neutrinos from a high altitude. Researchers in the Wissel lab are also exploring novel concepts like the Beamforming Elevated Array for Cosmic Neutrinos which searches for upgoing tau neutrinos from a high-elevation mountain. The postdoctoral scholar will conduct research on PUEO, which is expected to launch from McMurdo in 2024. For PUEO, the Penn State group is responsible for a deployable array of antenna and calibration systems. The payload will be integrated in Chicago and in Palestine, Tx prior to launch and the postdoc will be expected to contribute to building and testing instrumentation on the PUEO instrument. They will also travel to contribute to integration activities and may conduct field work in Antarctica. The candidate will work in a highly interdisciplinary environment at the intersection of engineering, materials science, biology, electronics, where we are motivated by a goal to improve human health. The position will involve development/synthesis of biomaterials and fabrication of biodevices. Develop novel materials and devices 2. Lead projects related to biodevices/biomaterials 3. Write manuscripts and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals 4. Support in the mentorship of junior scholars Requirements: The applicant must have recently received, or be scheduled to receive, a Ph.D. in an area broadly relevant to our research by the time employment starts, such as Biomedical Engineering, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field. Experience with one or more of the following techniques would be preferred: polymer synthesis, device fabrication, animal experiments, wireless circuits.
