The College of Health Professions at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is recruiting for a senior faculty member (Associate Professor or Professor rank) to establish a neurorehabilitation research program within the Department of Health Sciences & Research. We are especially focused on multisystem, whole person approaches to rehabilitation involving multidisciplinary teams capable of addressing issues faced by individuals across the spectrum of injury/disease (with and without disabilities). Accordingly, in addition to this senior leader, it is anticipated that we will add one or two additional junior or mid-career faculty hires, allowing the senior recruit to either bring researchers with them or lead the recruitment of synergistic faculty to facilitate their vision. Areas of interest that are synergistic with existing research programs at MUSC include cognitive and physical rehabilitation of aging related dysfunction, cognitive effects/benefits of exercise, neural control of movement, brain stimulation/neuromodulation, mindfulness and other rehabilitation approaches for improving brain and body function. Expertise in brain health, especially studying the overlapping neurocircuitry involved in neuroplasticity/neural recovery and aging/degeneration processes is considered a priority area of interest. We are looking for a researcher capable of developing a research program that will synergize with the exceptionally strong local environment in neurorehabilitation provided by two existing NIH-funded centers - the Center of Biomedical Research Excellence for Restoration of Neural-Based Function and the Neuro-PRECISE: Center for Advancing Precision Neural Circuit-Based Rehabilitation - amongst the total research funding of nearly $17.2 million received in fiscal year 2024 (ranked 11th nationally in NIH funding for Schools of Allied Health Professions). Additionally, in fall 2026 the College of Health Professions will open 15,000 sq. ft. of new research space, the Center for the Restoration of Neural-Based Function in the Real World (the RENEW Center), which was funded by a $7.9 million NIH construction grant. This state of the art space will offer spectacular neurorehabilitation research opportunities for the candidate and their research group. In addition, we have very strong existing collaborations with individuals and groups in the College of Medicine (COM) within a greater MUSC ecosystem that includes, among others, Neuroscience, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Cardiology, Oncology, Pathology and Public Health Sciences. Potential areas for collaboration include; cognitive assessments and interventions for individuals with Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias; Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury and other conditions; neuroplasticity and brain health; post-acute care services and outcomes; neuropsychological, language/communication, behavioral and psychosocial function related to neural impairment; neuromodulation methods (TMS, tDCS, VNS); neuroimaging (fMRI, PET, EEG, diffusion, MRS, TMS-fMRI-EEG); neurodegeneration biomarkers; advanced statistical approaches (machine learning); and connectomes.

A postdoctoral research opportunity is available with Clemson University to conduct research on abiotic and biotic stresses affecting cucurbit crops. The selected applicant will conduct research primarily on biotic factors (e.g., viral and fungal diseases) on cucurbit crops including squashes, cucumber and watermelon. Research assignment will include phenotyping cucurbit and watermelon germplasm for tolerance to biotic factors, selecting appropriate genotypes or single plants with resistance and advancing them to develop homozygous lines, identifying QTL regions and developing molecular markers, determining genes being up or down regulated during host-pathogen interactions. Other research projects can include research on diseases of cucurbits including studies to understand inheritance of host resistance to biotic and abiotic stress, genetic mapping, marker development, differential gene expression during disease development on susceptible and resistant cucurbit genotypes etc. Cucurbit crops that the laboratory primarily works on include watermelon, cucumber, melon, and various gourds.
The appointment is full-time for one year and may be renewed for an additional year contingent upon performance and availability of funding. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance. Funds will also be available to travel to one national and one division meeting. Funding is not available for relocation expenses.
Required qualifications
• Ph.D. degree in Horticulture, Genetics, Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, Plant Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field.
• Knowledge and experience in phenotyping plants for resistance to biotic and / or abiotic stress
• Knowledge and experience with Next Generation Sequencing and utilizing data to identify QTL regions and develop molecular markers for use in breeding programs.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, self-motivated, and a willingness to learn new skills and techniques.
• Be able to design experiments, initiate research projects, and participate effectively in team projects.
• Demonstrated ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
Preferred qualifications
• Experience performing bioinformatic analysis (GWAS, QTLseq etc.) and/or familiarity with scripting languages (i.e. R, Python, Linux etc.)
• Experience in field research will be advantageous but is not required.
• Knowledge and experience in molecular biology, plant pathology or breeding is preferred but not required.

The position is located at a main CSN campus (West Charleston, North Las Vegas, or Henderson); however, multi-campus travel may be required. Position priority tasks are the preparation and breakdown of equipment and supplies for science laboratory classroom instruction. The Department of Public Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina invites Master-level Biostatisticians to apply for a position within our group. The DCU specializes in the design, implementation, management, analysis and reporting of multicenter clinical trials, most of which are NIH-funded. This position is for biostatisticians with a Masters degree in biostatistics, applied
statistics or related fields, and with professional experience in clinical trials.
Job Duties:
1. 35% - Participate in study design development. This will include working with the protocol lead statistician and clinicians on proposals in which analysis plans are described, sample size justifications are proposed, and results are presented in a clear and transparent
manner for interpretation by the appropriate audience. This will include development of computer simulation programs to examine the design operating characteristics of the proposed designs.
2. 35% - Report generation for clinical trials. On-going clinical trials require regular reports on data quality, safety and (in some cases) efficacy. The biostatistician will work closely with the study team on centralized risk-based data monitoring and create programs in SAS/R to generate tables and graphics that will assist the study team on evaluating the quality of the incoming data. Reports also will be generated for trial Data Safety and Monitoring Board (DSMB) meetings and at the time the study is finished accrual and data collection is complete.
3. 25% - Analysis of data from clinical studies. This will include the interim and or final data analysis of datasets of varying sizes that result from the clinical trials coordinated by the DCU. Derived datasets will be created by the biostatistician, validation of analyses and programs will be conducted and reports that includes tables and figures, descriptions of methods used and interpretations of results
will be included.
4. 5% - Creation of public use datasets. As majority of the trials conducted by the DCU are NIH-funded, there is a requirement that the data be submitted to NIH for public use. The biostatistician will create the public use dataset according to the DCU standard procedures and will work with the investigators to ensure timely and accurate datasets are submitted.
MUSC Minimum Requirements:
A master's degree in statistics, biostatics or related field.
Preferred Experience & Additional Skills:
Advanced level of experience in SAS macro language, Proc IML, R or similar application and experience using SAS or other statistical software to conduct simulation studies to assess the operating characteristics (sample size/power) of various clinical trial study designs is desired. A Master of Science (MS or ScM) degree in biostatistics or statistics is required. Candidates should be able to work independently, have experience and ability in data analysis and statistical programming, and excellent oral and written communication skills. At least 1 year of

Participate in the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs), assist with the validation of SOPs for any additional cellular products including new CAR-T, mesenchymal stem cells and other cellular products.
* 30% - The employee will participate in the Autologous Islet Cell Isolation process, mesenchymal stem cell culture and functional analysis.
* 30% - Immunological testing of Human Blood and Tissue Specimens, involving sample preparation and running troubleshooting for flow cytometry, ELISA, Elispot, co-culture for antigen recognition and other assays. This portion of the position will require the performance of complex microbiological testing of blood specimens from clinical patients. This will include isolation of the buffy coat from whole blood using a density gradient separation and staining for Flow Cytometry.

The Dahne Lab within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Hollings Cancer Center at the Medical University of South Carolina announce a staff scientist I position in behavioral health (smoking cessation, mood disorders) and technology-based interventions (telehealth, remote clinical trials). The staff scientist will assist with ongoing clinical trials related to smoking cessation and depression treatment. Additional ongoing projects center around development of innovative methods to improve the feasibility and rigor of remote trials. These projects are funded via multiple NIH grants including R01s and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) awards. Opportunities exist to develop new research projects within ongoing studies and for secondary analyses of existing datasets. Interest in academic entrepreneurship is welcomed, though not required. The candidate will have opportunities to collaborate on and lead scientific articles, collaborate on and lead new NIH grant applications, and receive mentoring in developing new areas of grant-funded research relevant to behavioral health and telehealth. A Research Specialist III is sought for studies aimed at characterizing peptide-based nanotubes for drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier (BBB). These nanotubes represent a highly novel drug delivery platform with applications across multiple diseases. * 25% Lab Setup and Management: Assist the principal investigator in establishing an efficient lab that fosters scientific discovery and training. This includes managing/developing SOPs for laboratory protocols and operations such as ordering supplies and organizing lab activities, while contributing to a collaborative and supportive work environment. In addition, this individual is expected to carry out in vitro BBB assays and in vivo mouse studies independently and report results to the PI.
* 30% Molecular and Cellular Assays: Prepare nanotubes and develop a standard operating procedure enabling production scale-up. Monitoring of nanotube assembly will be monitored by confocal microscopy. Set-up and use of an in vitro cell-based model of the BBB is required for initial testing of nanotubes. This includes growing human brain endothelial cells on Transwell inserts placed in an EVOM apparatus and measuring a trans endothelial electrical resistance to assure tight junction presence across the monolayer and then adding nanotubes to the apical domain and follow their shuttling to the basolateral domain. Training of additional personnel including graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and Research Specialists is also required.
* 20% Nanotechnology: Loading nanotubes with small molecule drugs and/or biologics (mAbs) during assembly is required. Labeling of nanotubes with fluorescent or near infra-red dyes to enable monitoring their shuttling across the BBB in vitro and in mice in vivo is required.
* 15% Contribute to the planning, design, manuscript writing, grant applications, regulatory documentation, and modification of experiments.
* 10% Intellectual Contributions and Management: The Research Specialist III will maintain a detailed notebook of protocols and experiments performed. The location of these files will be managed locally and on a cloud to ensure safe and secure backup of all laboratory data.
