Job Description Summary:
The Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences within the School of Public Health is seeking a full-time Research Associate, 11th Street Bridge Park Project, to support a community health project led by Dr. Loretta DiPietro. The project examines the impact of the 11th Street Bridge Park on community health in DC Wards 6, 7, and 8.
This position will play a key role in coordinating project activities and supporting the study investigators. Working under the general guidance of the Principal Investigator, this position reports directly to Dr. DiPietro.
Responsibilities include participant recruitment, enrollment, and consenting, as well as assisting Drs. DiPietro and Gabby Hendricks with training research assistants on environmental audits, identifying and securing secondary data sources, and conducting interviews. The Research Associate will also contribute to academic manuscripts, posters, and presentations, and work closely with the investigative team to ensure the fidelity and integrity of all research activities. A strong commitment to multidisciplinary teamwork and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues and community partners is essential.
Primary Research Responsibilities:
* Assisting with recruiting, consenting, and enrolling study participants
* Developing study databases and standard operating procedures

Additional duties will include characterizing virus and host cell proteins by western blot, ELISA assays, immunofluorescent microscopy and other standard techniques. This position will also entail performing additional molecular biology techniques such as recombinant DNA technology, protein expression and purification, antibody production, and preparation of live viruses. Some lab management duties such as administration of IACUC protocols, general lab maintenance, ordering, and reagent preparation will also be required.

Our Post-Graduate APP Program is specifically designed for physician assistants and nurse practitioners who are interested in a life-long career in emergency medicine with training sites in the Spokane, WA through Spokane Emergency Care Physicians (SECP), a subsidiary of WECP.

Nine (9) months program duration with over 3000 hours of post graduate training
Over 1500 hours of clinical training
Over 150 hours of didactics to include over an introductory bootcamp followed by monthly activities that include meetings, case presentations, procedure lab or simulation.
Over 250 hours of independent study to include case review & presentation preparation, assigned CME and readings, and scholarly research project.
Expected commitment of 50 hours per week of the above activities

Key Responsibilities
20%Collects and harmonizes data from multiple sources, develops QA/QC protocols and reproducible data workflows
30%Develops analyses, evaluates model performance, and interprets results; compiles information and results into meaningful formats, including data visualizations, to ensure content is appropriately represented; maintain records and data analysis information.
20%Develops accessible educational and outreach materials in partnership with stakeholders and end users
20%Conceptualize, write, and submit first author and co-author publications to peer-reviewed journals
10%Write research and grant proposals related to the fields of hydrology, water quality, and data science; monitor proposals through to completion.
What You Will Need
+ Ph.D. degree in hydrology, freshwater or aquatic ecology, or a related discipline.
+ Two years of postdoctoral training or similar relevant research experience.
+ Research experience in aquatic biogeochemistry, hydrology, and freshwater ecology
+ Demonstrable track record of publishing in peer reviewed journals.
+ Proficient experience with coding in R or python and a demonstrable portfolio of reproducible workflows for data analysis and visualization
+ Experience in statistical analysis, especially in machine learning techniques and time series analysis
+ Excellent organizational, and written and interpersonal communication skills.
+ Ability to clearly communicate scientific concepts, findings, and results for a variety of audiences.
What We Would Like You to Have
+ Experience working with large river water quality datasets
+ Experience working with spatial data such as remotely sensed products, Google Earth Engine, and use of GIS tools
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Will require up to multi-week travel to conferences and workshops.
