The Physiological Acoustics Lab (http://escabilab.uconn.edu) at the University of Connecticut seeks applicants for a postdoctoral position in systems and computational neuroscience. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES We are seeking highly motivated and creative applicants who can lead a project on Misophonia, a psychological and behavioral disorder in which individuals experience adverse emotional reactions to specific sounds (“auditory triggers”). The broad project goal is to develop computational models of hearing and perception that are fitted to human perceptual measurements and that can be used to characterize and diagnose misophonia. The models will also be used to develop sound processing tools to remove and de-emphasize auditory triggers (e.g., with headphones) and improve participant outcomes. The project will use a variety of approaches, including human perceptual experiments, machine learning, digital signal processing, and computational models of hearing. UConn has a vibrant neuroscience community, and there are opportunities for collaboration between departments, institutes, and Universities involved in the project. The primary appointment is in Biomedical Engineering and/or Electrical Engineering. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES • Thoroughly evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage each patient's condition appropriately. • Identifies relevant medical issues accurately and use appropriate procedures and testing. • Documenting assessment findings, treatment recommendations and plan for continuing care in the clinical record. • Collaborate with physicians, clinicians, other agency providers, clinical support staff, and administrative staff in meeting patient and family needs. • Provide health promotion, education and counseling for patient/families related to medication, diagnosis, health issues and coping strategies. •Participate in the management of inter-disciplinary team issues that affect clinical care of patients. • Utilize quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or work flows. • Participate in the identification and implementation of opportunities to enhance patient and family satisfaction. • Participate in pediatric clinical research into the genetic basis of inherited disorders and scholarly activities to promote the health and development of children. • Provide clinical teaching in genetics to a variety of learners, including medical students, residents and fellows. • Participate in efforts to ensure compliance with JCAHO standards and other applicable accreditation and regulatory standards. • Participate in peer review and quality assurance. • Perform other duties as assigned. • Academic appointments may be available with the University of Connecticut.

Position Description: The successful candidate will provide quantitative bioanalytical support using LC-MS/MS for a variety of high throughput in vitro ADME profiling assays. In this hands-on role, the candidate will perform sample analyses by mass spectrometry, and will review, interpret and report results. Instruments and software from various vendors including Sciex (Analyst) and Thermo (Excalibur) will be used along with custom internal data processing software to acquire data and process results. The successful candidate will also troubleshoot HPLC and MS instrumentation as necessary. Position Requirements: BS or MS in chemistry, with specialization in analytical chemistry preferred, along with 1 to 5 years of relevant pharmaceutical experience is required. Training or experience in mass spectrometry and separation science, as well as hands-on experience in quantitative LC-MS/MS analysis are desired. Proficiency in general computer software, including vendor specific instrument control and analysis tools, is required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, are required as is commitment to working as a team player within a multifunctional organization. A working knowledge of allied disciplines such as computer science, lab automation, drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics and synthetic chemistry is helpful.
