Dr. Kirupa Suthakar, Principal Investigator (PI) of the Descending Auditory Circuits (DAC) Laboratory, invites applications for a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow with expertise in auditory neuroscience. The ideal candidate will have previous basic science laboratory experience including rodent handling and colony management, rodent survival surgeries, auditory function testing, neurophysiology, microscopy, complex statistical analysis and coding in MATLAB/Python.
The lab's research focuses on understanding neural circuits in the descending auditory system, specifically how auditory brainstem neurons encode acoustic information and identifying/characterizing neuromodulatory (e.g. serotonergic) pathways that influence sound processing in the brain and cochlea. Using normal hearing and noise-induced hearing loss models, our long-term goals are to (1) improve basic knowledge of brain processes that modulate sound encoding by the cochlea and (2) identify translatable therapeutic otoprotective targets to reduce susceptibility to hearing disorders resulting from acoustic overexposures (i.e. noise trauma).

Remote research fisheries biologist job
Fair and Just Prosecution (FJP) is seeking applications for Research and Policy Fellows . In this role you are responsible for working closely with the executive team and other staff to provide support and assistance to recently elected prosecutive leaders committed to new innovations, enhanced transparency and accountability and moving beyond past incarceration-driven approaches.

Who We Are
Great strides have been made over the past few years in promoting criminal justice reforms that recognize that prior “tough on crime” and incarceration-driven practices don't always produce safer or healthier communities. Against that backdrop, a new generation of reform-minded state and local elected prosecutors committed to changing their office culture and promoting a less punitive approach to addressing crime has come into office. Recently elected DAs in geographic areas ranging from Los Angeles, St. Louis, and Philadelphia to smaller rural communities are pushing back against the “law and order/tough on crime” rhetoric of past decades and elevating a national conversation around the importance of a fair, equitable and right-sized justice system.
FJP brings together these reform-minded and innovative elected prosecutors as part of a network of leaders committed to promoting a justice system grounded in fairness, equity, compassion, and fiscal responsibility.
Job Description
What You'll Do
You have an important and robust job. You will:
Interface with recently elected prosecutors, national organizations, academics and justice system leaders

Assist FJP staff with information gathering from prosecutors, academics and other subject matter experts in regard to prosecutive best practices, juvenile justice issues, strategies for reducing incarceration, diversion and bail reform, enhancing transparency and accountability, addressing justice system inequities, and fortifying community trust
Work with FJP staff to plan, structure, and organize in-person and remote gatherings to enable newly elected prosecutive leaders to learn from each other - and from other experts in the field
Work with FJP staff to help develop and conduct interviews, oversee surveys and provide assistance and support to prosecutive leaders who are part of the FJP network
Work with FJP staff to help develop, promote and oversee opportunities for academic collaborations
Work with FJP staff to help develop and update project management and tracking tools and mechanisms
Work with FJP staff to identify and promote other learning opportunities and partnerships that can enhance the ability of FJP prosecutive leaders to learn about and implement new justice system practices and thinking
Qualifications

Additionally, you have the following background, experience, and skills/abilities:
Bachelor's degree required; JD, Master's Degree or equivalent post-graduate degree preferred. However, we value diverse educational and experiential backgrounds. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will also be considered

Strong writing, research and oral communication skills
Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks, and help keep a large national project organized and on track
Ability to communicate effectively with, develop credibility among, and gain the confidence of, elected prosecutive leaders and their staffs

Job Summary
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will conduct high-resolution numerical modeling, data analysis, and model validation in collaboration with a multidisciplinary research team. The position offers opportunities for independent research, publication, and collaboration with leading ocean scientists as part of a multi-institutional National Ocean Partnership Program (NOPP; *************************** effort. This full-time, 12-month position is supported by a three-year Office of Naval Research (ONR) grant. In recent global ocean simulation studies (Solano et al.,2023; Buijsman et al., 2025) it has been shown that supertidal (nonlinear) internal wave energy is enhanced in the tropics. The aim of this project is to understand nonlinear internal wave generation, cross-scale energy transfers, and non-linear wave-mean flow interactions in this region.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
* Develop and run high-resolution simulations: Set up nonhydrostatic numerical models (likely MITgcm) nested within regional NCOM simulations to study nonlinear internal wave dynamics near the Amazon shelf and in the Bay of Bengal.
* Provide model data support: Share simulation output with project collaborators to inform observational cruises and mooring deployment strategies.
* Validate and analyze model performance: Compare model results with TPXO, SWOT, and mooring observations to ensure model accuracy and consistency.
* Conduct diagnostic analyses: Use advanced coarse-graining, spectral, and modal decomposition techniques to quantify energy fluxes and assess ocean mixing processes.
* Collaborate with project teams: Work closely with scientists, postdocs, and students across partner institutions to meet project goals and milestones.
* Participate in meetings: Attend and present research progress at weekly to annual project meetings, providing updates and exchanging information with collaborators.
* Publish research findings: Lead the preparation of approximately one first-author, peer-reviewed manuscript per year and contribute as a co-author on additional publications.
* Present research results: Disseminate findings at national and international scientific conferences.
* Support project reporting: Assist with annual reports and other documentation required by the funding agency.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography or a closely related discipline, with successful dissertation defense completed no later than December 31, 2025. Candidates must have a publication record that illustrates the ability to conduct and communicate independent research and experience with running and diagnosing MITgcm/ROMS/oceananigans.jl simulations, diagnosing observational data, coding, time series analysis, and internal wave processes. The successful candidate will be required to pass a USM employment background check and a NASA background security check to work at Stennis. A remote work arrangement from inside the USA can be discussed.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSA's)
* Comprehensive understanding of physical oceanography, including nonlinear internal wave dynamics and ocean mixing processes.
* Strong understanding of coding, numerical modeling (e.g., MITgcm), and model validation (with TPXO, SWOT, moorings), and advanced data analysis techniques (filtering, fft, coarse-graining, modal decomposition).
* Strong communication and presentation skills for disseminating research findings at conferences and in journal articles and project reports.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage research tasks, prioritize deadlines, and think critically and creatively to solve complex scientific problems.
Prefrred Qualifications
Experience in coding in MATLAB, Julia, Python or Fortran, setting-up, running, and diagnosing model simulations, diagnosing observational data sets, diagnosing internal wave energy equations, time series analysis (e.g., regression and Fourier analysis), and vertical mode decomposition.
