Understanding how ultrasonic waves propagate through the human body has many important applications for AR/VR. However, this problem is still largely unexplored and extremely complex to model. Meta is leading a cutting-edge investigation in this space, relying on world-class experts. In this position, you will join Meta's ultrasonic sensing team to investigate the propagation of ultrasonic waves in complex media using both experiments and simulations, explore different ultrasound carrier frequencies, modulation waveforms, launch configurations, transducers and body coupling, and estimate fundamental wave propagation parameters, such as dispersion, attenuation, and group velocity.Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year. **Required Skills:** Research Scientist Intern, Ultrasonic Sensing (PhD) Responsibilities: 1. Design and perform experiments to study wave propagation through complex media. 2. Conduct experiments using ultrasonic transducers, laser vibrometers and/or mechanical testing techniques. 3. Collect and analyze data from experiments using MATLAB, Python, or other software tools. 4. Collaborate with researchers to develop computational models of wave propagation through complex media. 5. Experience with ultrasound guided waves and ultrasonic waveguide design 13. Experience with programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or C++ 14. Perform advanced data and statistical analysis and will communicate scientific findings in papers and conference presentations. Assist with database creation and management, supervision of undergraduate/graduate students. Education: Doctorate (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in area directly related to field of research specialization required. Experience and Skills: Highly motivated and works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within the area of specialization. Acquires thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment. Highly motivated with a proven track of record of publications. Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection and analysis.
