Description & Details: Dr. Miranda Meehan in the School of Natural Resource Sciences (SNRS) at North Dakota State University is hiring a research and Extension coordinator to conduct relevant research that meets the needs of the state, provide Extension education to stakeholders, and provide service to their academic unit, College, and University. This position will serve as a critical member of a team conducting research related to grazing systems and providing extension education related to grazing management. Responsibilities will include: * Carry out field operations for field, greenhouse, and laboratory research * Aid in determining space required for experiments and setting up field trials * Manage experimental plots, including performing regular field operations such as application of treatments, vegetation and soil sampling, and processing of samples. * Manage livestock on grazing trails, develop grazing plans, and collect livestock data. * Aid in coordinating research extension center (REC) and on-farm research (communicating with REC researchers and staff, farmers, collecting data, etc.) * Maintain equipment * Maintain field equipment (UTV, trailers, virtual fence base station, virtual fence collars, etc.) in working condition * Help maintain general organization of program inventory * Support Extension and education outreach * Organize and facilitate meetings * Develop and deliver an Extension program * Develop educational materials to be disseminated to stakeholders through educational meetings, in-depth training, publications, videos, and new technologies as appropriate * Aid with program evaluation and assessment of evaluation data * Aid in data management and analysis * Aid in managing logistics for student research projects Work Schedule: Full-time, 12-month Hiring Range: $46,342 - $61,790 Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining sugarbeet research materials; phenotyping for responses to diseases, insects, and cold storage; identifying gene loci through genome-wide marker development and genetic mapping; conducting DNA subcloning, plant transformation, and functional gene characterization; and validating gene functions using both forward and reverse genetic approaches. The candidate will also be expected to analyze and interpret data and publish results in peer-reviewed journals. This position is initially available for two years, with renewal contingent upon funding availability and satisfactory performance. Advertised Salary: $50,000+/year Minimum Qualifications: * Ph.D. in genetics, plant breeding, or a closely related discipline. * Demonstrated expertise in genetic studies of plant disease resistance. * Hands-on experience with modern biotechnologies, including gene mapping, QTL analysis, genome-wide association studies, SNP calling from genotyping-by-sequencing or whole-genome sequencing, RNA-seq analysis, and quantitative RT-PCR. * Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. * Proven record of initiating and completing research projects, including publication of results in refereed scientific journals. Preferred Qualifications: * Prior experience and expertise in greenhouse and field evaluation of fungal plant diseases or insect damage. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Strong record of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
