    The Department of Diabetes Immunology within the Arthur Riggs Diabetes & Metabolism Research Institute (AR-DMRI) at City of Hope has an opening for a tenure-track associate or full professor. AR-DMRI is a component of the Beckman Research Institute (BRI) at City of Hope. Our research depth in diabetes and cancer makes this institution unique, providing opportunities for scientific and clinical distinction and collaboration across disciplines, for example cross-talk between diabetes immunologists, cancer immunologists, and beta cell biologists. City of Hope is also home to the Wanek Family Project for Type 1 Diabetes, a philanthropic partnership designed to advance novel therapies for type 1 diabetes. The Wanek Family Project and a Department of Diabetes Immunology are directed by Alberto Pugliese, who joined City of Hope in October 2022. The Department has strong focus on human type 1 diabetes and translation. We are looking to hire a Tenure-Track Professor who has an interest in understanding islet autoimmunity and more broadly the disease pathogenesis at the preclinical and/or clinical levels and with the desire to translate promising insights into biomarkers, treatments and potential cures for type 1 diabetes. Job Duties: Post-bar and public interest fellows will have an opportunity to work on cases in our trial, appellate, capital habeas, or non-capital habeas units. The fellows will work in their assigned unit under the supervision of an attorney. The fellows will be able to work directly with and on behalf of federal criminal defendants. The fellows will have the opportunity to assist with court hearings and, if applicable, trials. Carrying Large cans, weighing 3 pounds, 7 ounces, are carried from the workstation to storage shelves. Occasionally, pizza sauce weighing 30 pounds is carried from the storage room to the front of the store. Trays of pizza dough are carried three at a time over short distances, and weigh approximately 12 pounds per tray. Pushing To move trays which are placed on dollies. A stack of trays on a dolly is approximately 24"- 30" and requires a force of up to 7.5 pounds to push. Trays may also be pulled. Climbing Team members must infrequently navigate stairs or climb a ladder to change prices on signs, wash walls, perform maintenance. Stooping/Bending Forward bending at the waist is necessary at the pizza assembly station. Toe room is present, but workers are unable to flex their knees while standing at this station. Duration of this position is approximately 30 - 45 seconds at one time, repeated continuously during the day. Forward bending is also present at the front counter and when stocking ingredients. Crouching/Squatting Performed occasionally to stock shelves and to clean low areas. Reaching Reaching is performed continuously; up, down and forward. Workers reach above 72" occasionally to turn on/off oven controls, change prices on sign, and lift and lower objects to and from shelves. Workers reaching down to perform such tasks as scooping cornmeal from a plastic barrel, or washing dishes. Job Responsibilities & Overview • Set Up- responsible for preparing their station(s) before the start of each shift, including preparing some items in the commercial/warehouse kitchen before they are stored in the food truck. • Prepping Food- Each employee will be asked to prep food for service each day. • Cooking- responsible for preparing the items requested from their station. This requires working with other employees in the truck to make sure that food is ready at the right time. An employee will often be directed by the HDOS Catering Food Truck manager as they prepare the food. • Clean Up- At the end of a shift, each team member is responsible for cleaning their station: disposing of garbage, cleaning utensils, dishes, and cleaning cooking surfaces. The team will also be responsible for taking care of left-over food, whether that means disposing of it, returning unused items to the correct inventory location, or storing cooked goods for use at another service. • Stocking- unload and store inventory correctly. • Cash Handling- each employee is expected to have clear communication with the client when taking the order, excel in upselling and suggestive selling, as well as supreme customer service. They are also responsible for all checks and balances that occur during the shift. The lab's research in the Department of Immuno-Oncology focuses on how blood and immune cells develop, function, and interact with other cells, with a second focus on how blood stem cells become malignant. We use mass spectrometry to identify activated protein circuits in rare blood stem and progenitor cell populations, including therapeutic chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells, and use that knowledge to improve and devise new therapies for pediatric cancers and blood disorders. As a successful candidate, you will: * Coordinate lab tasks and operations, including ordering, inventory, and other essential functions. * Prepare laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments, and maintain equipment. * Perform a variety of routine and non-routine laboratory research experiments. Record and validate results and methodology for accuracy and completeness. * Perform preclinical rodent work (mouse handling, screening, injections, and analysis).
