Lincoln Electric research internship job description
The Energy Systems Group develops technology solutions that enhance the resilience and efficiency of both tactical and domestic energy systems. This includes developing advanced architectures and system designs to improve the resilience of power grids, developing new control techniques for microgrids and distributed energy resources, and developing hardware and real-time simulation testbeds.
Job Description
Summer Intern - Energy System Data Collection
The Energy System Group seeks a summer intern to work with a multi-disciplinary team to develop a data collection pipeline for a hardware-in-the-loop microgrid test bed. The candidate will develop and test extract, transform, load (ETL) processes for power system controllers across the testbed, including generator controllers, photovoltaic inverters, and electrical relays. The candidate will integrate this data pipeline with modeling and simulation algorithms, and develop a visualization system for end users to view data.
Candidates who are in the process of earning a B.S., M.S., and or Ph.D. in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science, or other engineering discipline will be considered. Fluency with object-oriented Python, and experience navigating Linux is required. Experience with SQL databases, ETL processes, and control system protocols like Modbus, are helpful, but not required. A working knowledge of energy generation and storage technologies is required. However, it is not required to have experience or coursework in power system control, and this internship will offer an opportunity to learn about the control and configuration of distributed energy resources across the power grid.
Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
To safeguard our health and well-being, MIT Lincoln Laboratory requires COVID-19 vaccination for all employees. Individuals may request exemption from the vaccine requirement for medical or religious reason.

What You'll Do
Internships at Cisco Quantum Research provide an excellent opportunity to work on groundbreaking research in different areas of quantum information and to connect with a network of world-class research groups. As part of the team, you contribute to research projects on quantum computing and network, develop working prototypes of systems, and publish papers in conferences and journals.
Who You'll Work With
Cisco Quantum Research, part of Emerging Technologies and Incubation (ET&I) Group, is passionate about identifying breakthrough emerging solutions that build new markets and businesses for Cisco. ET&I incubates these new opportunities in partnership with our business groups, partners and other startups. The team also continues progress through Cisco's significant work with standards bodies and manages research partnerships with leading-edge universities.
Who You Are
Our Requirements are:
* PhD student in physics, computer science or a relevant field.
* Research experience in quantum communication/cryptography, quantum computing, or quantum photonics.
* A strong research track record demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
* Proficient in one or many of the following languages (Python, C++, Java).
Why Cisco
#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, but we bring our talents to work as a team and make a difference powering an inclusive future for all.
We embrace digital, and help our customers implement change in their digital businesses. Some may think we're "old" (36 years strong) and only about hardware, but we're also a software company. And a security company. We even invented an intuitive network that adapts, predicts, learns and protects. No other company can do what we do - you can't put us in a box!
But "Digital Transformation" is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.)
Day to day, we focus on the give and take. We give our best, give our egos a break, and give of ourselves (because giving back is built into our DNA.) We take accountability, bold steps, and take difference to heart. Because without diversity of thought and a dedication to equality for all, there is no moving forward.
So, you have colorful hair? Don't care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That's cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us!
Cisco is an Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, genetic information, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected basis.
Cisco will consider for employment, on a case by case basis, qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
