The overall goal of the Center for Applied Aquatic Ecology (CAAE) is to provide services and service-related research and training of young scientists about surface water quality, impacts of nutrient over-enrichment and related pollutants on aquatic ecosystems (freshwater to marine), algal ecology, and education outreach in aquatic science. Our work requires specialized facilities and equipment such as a state-certified water quality analytical laboratory with several acid-resistant fume hoods and acid-resistant plumbing, research microscopes and algal culturing facilities, boats and gear for sampling surface waters, and real-time remote monitoring platforms in aquatic field sites.
