Purpose
To design, develop and evaluate welding machines and associated processes; to conduct applied research into new areas of welding machine design and/or on new welding processes.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Utilizes and applies experience in a broad range of fields to understand weld machine development process and interactions between machine design and weld process development/optimization; collaborates with team members and members of the department, providing the benefit of this understanding to enhance the execution of projects
Develops new welding machines, software, welding processes and/or test methodologies in accordance with company policies/procedures and in consideration of:
Market needs, requiring direct interface with customers, sales and marketing
Industry codes, standards, and specifications, and
Manufacturing process capabilities, requiring direct interface with manufacturing and methods personnel
Establishes standards and methodologies for and conducts evaluations of product performance
Develops/refines test methods, as applicable, to support new product development, product evaluations, and competitive benchmarking
Facilitates development of manufacturing process capabilities to support introduction of new products
Works with minimal direct supervision, conferring with superiors as needed; has appreciable latitude for independent action or decision
May provide task oriented direction to Technicians, Technologists and/or Engineers Level I/II/III in the execution of development projects
Structures projects for and provides supervision and mentoring to Engineering Interns
Maintains records of all work in process and documents interim/final results in the applicable format; these include Project Definitions, Milestone Plans, ES Reports, Technical Reports, Project Tracking Progress Reports and presentations at meetings, seminars, and conferences
Basic Requirements
Baccalaureate degree in Engineering (or equivalent). Degree in Welding Engineering preferred.
Minimum 8 years engineering experience.
Processes and applies a broad knowledge of engineering and scientific principles, practices and procedures, within the field of specialization, to the completion of difficult assignments.
Computer literate with working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access and MS PowerPoint, as a minimum.
Possesses and applies both practical and fundamental understanding of various arc welding processes.
Experience with Robotic Programming.
Experience with numerical modeling tools including Python is a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Works effectively in a cross-functional team environment

Perform refractions per protocol using trial frames.

Perform basic low vision testing and pinhole testing as needed.
Perform MN/Radner Reading test
Instill eyedrops properly and understand the indication/contraindication for use in dilation and as corneal anesthetic
Measure and record current lens power accurately with a lensometer (including add power(s) and prism)
Perform pupillary assessment
Estimate anterior chamber depth using transilluminator method
Perform and record basic ocular motility and alignment testing
Perform and record confrontation visual fields
Perform and record Amsler Grid Test
Perform Tonopen tonometry and applanation tonometry as needed
Perform Color Vision Plates and other color vision testing (D15 etc).
Able to navigate EHR and properly document patient information and the results of Basic Ophthalmic Tech Skills
Exam Lane Maintenance and calibration as assigned
Perform routine instrument maintenance on ophthalmic equipment
Stock examination rooms in assigned area and ensure that medication expiration dates are current
Clean, disinfect and maintain examination rooms
Comply with company and Sate Pharmacy Board drop inventory guidelines
Ability to perform equipment calibration and log documentation
Other Testing Skills
Perform clinic and research ERG tests, both full field and multi-focal tests
Perform FST testing and other protocol specific tests
Research Requirements:
Attend in-services for study staff
Review GCP guidelines, maintain GCP &/or CITI certification
Obtain/maintain study-specific examiner certification as required by protocol.

OBJECTIVE
The Research Associate 1 will oversee research projects within the lab, providing scientific oversight, guidance to lab members, and lab management in the absence of the principal investigator. The Research Associate will design and plan projects, oversee collaborations, oversee/supervise staff and students, and fully execute research projects. The Research Associate 1 will utilize a multitude of techniques such as cell culture, molecular biology, histology/microscopy, and animal studies. The Research Associate will keep the PI informed of progress of research projects and provide recommendations on experimental design and project plans. The Research Associate will independently prepare manuscripts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Independently and with the principal investigator, design, plan, and execute research projects. Perform analysis of cell culture and in vivo experiments, using techniques, but not limited to gene expression analysis, rodent surgeries/ cell and gene delivery, histology/microscopy, stem cell generation and differentiation. Maintain accurate records of data and provide findings and recommendations to the PI based on analysis (45%).
2. Independently author research projects. Assemble data and make publication-quality figures from analyzed data. With the highest level of integrity and responsible conduct of research, participate in writing manuscripts as a first author and co-author for discoveries from research performed in the lab, together with the PI and other lab members (10%).
3. With the principal investigator, establish goals and objectives for the efficient and timely completion of projects. Meet regularly with the principal investigator to review and set priorities, staff/student-related issues, and future research staff and planning. Provide scientific oversight of all research projects, including data collection and maintenance. Establish and manage the day-to-day priorities of the research staff. Supervise and mentor research assistants and technicians. Supervise Coordinate experiments performed by other lab members, ensuring adequate resources, assisting with experimental design and analysis. Oversee progress of the research projects and provide regular progress reports to the PI; and provide input and recommendation to principal investigator regarding significant developments in research projects. Ensure the PI is informed about the results of lab members, and ensure the PI's experimental strategy is explored by lab members and through independent experiments by the Research Associate (10%).
4. Present data and findings at laboratory meetings and scientific meetings, seminars, etc. Prepare manuscripts, and contribute preliminary data for grant proposals (10%).
5. Mentor and train lab staff and graduate students; oversee research work and ensure projects are being completed according to the research plan. This will involve teaching other members of the lab techniques and scientific discovery methods, including students and post-docs. Assist and teach both established and new research techniques to other lab members to facilitate their experiments. Coordinate trainings for lab members with EHS and others as needed (10%).
6. May Supervise research assistants and technicians. Supervise the research and technical work performed by other lab members, ensuring proper lab procedures are followed, and their safety, and ensuring adequate resources are provided for lab work (10%).
