Current projects are focused on identifying the genetic requirements and molecular processes by which ERAD facilitates cellular protein homeostasis and how cellular stress signals related to aberrant protein accumulation are transmitted within and between cells. These projects will require the use of aseptic technique for culturing C. elegans and bacterial cells and a variety of molecular biology, biochemistry, and microscopy techniques. These techniques may include reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), recombinant DNA construction/analysis, Western blots, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), RNA-seq, affinity purifications of protein complexes, and widefield and confocal fluorescence microscopy. Additionally, the assistant will provide general support to the lab as needed, which may include assisting in the training new undergraduate and Masters' students in routine techniques, ordering, maintaining reagent and cell strain databases, restocking common reagents and consumables, updating the lab website, and contributing to plastic/glassware cleaning and sterilization.
