What does the Oncology Research Nurse (RN) do?


This position offers a unique and exciting opportunity to work as a nurse in oncology clinical research. As a Clinical Research Nurse, you will provide care for patients receiving cutting-edge treatments within the oncology clinic. This position provides a variety of responsibilities while developing rewarding relationships as you manage the cancer patient throughout their journey. Responsibilities:

The essential duties and responsibilities:


Work closely with physicians to identify and screen potential patients for clinical trial participation Present trial concepts and details to oncology patients while conducting the informed consent process. Assess patients for adverse events and/or changes in condition Provide staff and patient education regarding the management and administration of investigational product Ensure accurate and timely documentation and data entry to meet trial requirements Serve as a liaison between clinic departments to ensure proper trial conduct Oversees the preparation of orders by physicians to assure that protocol compliance is maintained. Enters orders to assure that protocol compliance is maintained. Responsible for compiling and reporting protocol activity, accrual data, and research financials to practice administration and physicians. May be responsible for the development of practice research budgets. Maintains regulatory documents in accordance with USOR SOP and applicable regulations. Participate in scheduling monitoring and auditing visits. Interacts with the monitors/auditors while onsite.
Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for the Senior Oncology Research Nurse (RN) will have the following background and experience:


Graduate from an accredited program for nursing education required (BSN preferred) Current licensure as a registered nurse in state of practice Current BLCS or ACLS certification required Minimum 7 years of nursing experience required, preferably in oncology Previous management and/or leadership experience Experience in clinical research strongly preferred OCN certification strongly preferred CCRC or CCRP certification preferred

Responsibilities

The UCLA Center for Behavioral & Addiction Medicine (CBAM) advances the prevention and treatment of chronic illnesses, especially in communities with health disparities. Our research efforts include clinical trials of anti-addiction medications and HIV prevention interventions. The Research Nurse Coordinator will be responsible for day to day operations of assigned research projects, for ensuring that study activities are carried out according to the protocol and Standard Operating Procedures. This position will provide quality assurance of study data, prepare regular progress reports, and make recommendations to improve operations. This position will meet with research participants to conduct medical procedures and administer study measures, including infusions. This position will manage multiple computer systems used for scheduling and data collection. You will also interact with other Coordinators and Director-level staff to ensure fair and efficient use of clinic space and resources and will coordinate scheduling and logistics with the off-site pharmacy.

Qualifications

**Required:**

Minimum of 2 years' research experience.

Ability to question subjects about sensitive behavioral issues, including drug use, sexual activities and other high risk behaviors.

Licensed as an RN to provide medical services in the State of California.

Able to be credentialed within the UCLA Health System to administer clinical services consistent with scope of licenses.

Ability to conduct medical procedures within scope of licensure to open consents, to administer medications, and to collect adverse event reports.

Experience working with patients from diverse backgrounds, especially active substance users, LGBT populations and those at risk for HIV.

Knowledge of HIV, infectious disease and their treatments.

Skilled in keeping accurate and timely records. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and report to supervisor(s) on a regular basis and in a timely manner.

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and use of Internet.

Skill in using equipment to conduct medical and laboratory procedures, including but not limited to phlebotomy collection devices, vitals signs equipment, EKG machines, and AED.

Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and some weekends.

Willing to commute between multiple sites for meetings.

Intermediate level experience with database management using multiple software packages and ability to merge and manage multiple databases.

**Preferred:**

Certification to administer infusions. BCLS certification.

ACLS certification or familiarity with AED.

Ability to read, write and speak in Spanish.
