POSITION OVERVIEW: The Ocean Biofluids Lab led by Dr. Kevin Du Clos at Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) seeks to hire a Postdoctoral Research Associate for an NSF-funded research project exploring the roles of understudied gelatinous organisms in marine food webs. The primary research focus of the lab is understanding interactions between marine organisms and their physical fluid environments, using imaging and numerical modeling techniques. The successful applicant will collect and analyze data from field and lab-based imaging systems to constrain the feeding rates of three groups of gelatinous marine predators-siphonophores, hydromedusae, and cydippid ctenophores-that use tentacles to capture their prey. The position will be based at LUMCON's Blue Works facility in Houma, LA with some travel to the DeFelice Field Station in Cocodrie, LA required. There will be opportunities for out-of-state travel for field work (Hawaii and Washington State), conferences, etc. and to work with collaborator Dr. Kelly Sutherland (University of Oregon). The postdoc may also occasionally be asked to assist Dr. Du Clos with plankton field sampling, processing image data, and mentoring undergraduate interns. About the team: Vera's work in New Orleans began in 2006, when the City Council invited us to assess the criminal justice system and propose reforms as part of post-Katrina recovery efforts. In partnership with people leading and working in the local justice system, city leaders, and community organizations, we are working to end unnecessary detention and develop innovative, collaborative projects that improve the delivery of justice in New Orleans and throughout Louisiana. Vera Louisiana is seeking a part- or full-time (21-35 hours/week) summer Research Intern to provide a wide range of support for our ongoing projects, including jail population reduction, increasing investment in thriving communities, and addressing Louisiana's carceral impact in multiple parishes and at the state legislature. The Research Associate 3 (RA3) will plan, assist, and conduct highly independent research, upon approval of the Principal Investigator, working on the project titled ‘Viral Oncolysis of Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma”. The RA3 will assist with studying novel cancer therapeutic development including viral cancer treatments. The incumbent will monitor and maintain all in vivo experiments. A Medical Research Specialist position in available in the Section of Cardiology to work on research focused on cardiovascular senescence and Tulane Cardiovascular Biobank projects. This position will support ongoing research involving the intersection of cardiovascular diseases, aging, and senescence.
