Position Summary The Accelerator Physicist will contribute to the development and operation of the FRIB accelerators by undertaking projects and activities to improve facility performance as measured by beam quality, intensity, power, purity, and variety. These activities will focus on enhancing the performance of FRIB and providing planned availability of primary beams on target and secondary beams for experiments, primarily by applying AI/ML techniques. Major Duties/Responsibilities Develop new techniques, software, and hardware to improve the performance of the driver- and re-accelerators based on AI/ML methods Assist with the design, prototype, development, implementation, and maintenance of high-level physics applications based on AI/ML techniques Validate the accuracy and reliability of the physics applications and algorithms; Create detailed documentation for the developed applications, including user guides and technical specifications; Train users and operators on how to use the new tools and applications effectively, Continuously monitor the performance of the re-accelerator and adjust applications as needed. The Haus Lab in the Department of Horticulture at Michigan State University is hiring a postdoctoral research associate to lead a new organic dry bean research identifying major limitations of organic dry bean production at various stages and developing improved management practices. Organic dry beans are an important source of plant-based iron and protein, but production is limited by a number of environmental stressors. Our projects aim to mitigate production losses using inherent, but poorly understood plant traits. The successful candidate will lead research projects using fundamental, applied, and extension approaches. The successful applicant should also have strong writing and communication skills and be able to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary research team. The highly collaborative McCabe laboratory takes an interdisciplinary approach to study the mechanisms involved in the gut-bone signaling axis and to identify therapeutics that target the gut in order to prevent osteoporosis. The successful applicant will utilize cell culture, mouse models, and human studies to identify signals and factors mediating bone health under standard, aging, and disease conditions. They will also be involved in laboratory leadership (training of students), interacting with other faculty, and developing proposal/manuscript writing skills. The goal of the research is to explore the limits of nuclear stability, study the properties of weakly bound nuclei, and understand the nuclear reactions to produce the rarest isotopes.
