The successful candidate will serve as a Research Laboratory Manager for the STAR contract and will be an integral member of a joint Government and contractor team that operates in a very dynamic environment. The laboratory manager administers all activities crucial for work in a research or test laboratory. This can include reviewing and developing laboratory procedures, machine and equipment maintenance schedules, dealing with safety and quality issues and external collaboration, as needed. This position supports laboratory operations related to cryogenic and radiation-effects testing of detectors and electronics for space-based sensing systems.
**Essential Functions**
The Research Laboratory Manager's duties will include:
+ Maintains a safe and healthy laboratory environment during all research or test activities performed in connection with the STAR SIREN contract
+ Comply with applicable State, Federal, Air Force, Kirtland AFB, and AFRL safety and environmental standards and regulations, and documents compliance
+ Coordinates and maintains laboratory research activities
+ Provides support for tests and experiments
+ Supports cryogenic testing of detector and electronic assemblies, including LNâ‚‚/LHe dewar handling, cryostat operation, cooldown/warmup procedures, and cold-stage thermal management
+ Supports radiation and radiation-effects testing of detectors/electronics, including experiment setup, cabling, shielding configuration, and post-test laboratory recovery
+ Installs, modifies, and maintains cryogenic hardware, vacuum components, temperature sensors (diodes/RTDs), heaters, and vacuum feedthroughs used in detector test systems.
+ Performs hands-on electrical integration including low-noise wiring, harness routing, soldering, connector preparation, and interfacing with readout electronics
+ Investigates, assists in developing and selects procedures for the laboratory
+ Helps establish and enforce "best practices" for the laboratory
+ Collaborates with internal or external research groups to enhance the capability of the research laboratory and to evaluate and select standard techniques
+ Provides all laboratory and research equipment, test equipment, jigs, mechanical and electrical/electronic interfaces to the target experiment set-up
+ Ensures proper configuration control, tool accountability, ESD safety, and documentation for all laboratory hardware

**Work Environment**
This job operates in a professional/secure laboratory and office environment. About Our Team:
The Geothermal Research Department is an organization that delivers unique solutions for customers who require components and systems capable of operating in harsh and often high-temperature environments. The historical mission of the department was to address technology needs related to the development of geothermal energy (a baseload renewable energy resource); in particular accessing, monitoring and engineering of geothermal resources in subsurface geologic environments. This mission continues, but the capabilities of the organization have also been leveraged to address other issues of national importance. Current activities are broad in scope and require the efforts of multidisciplinary technical teams with expertise in mechanical engineering, drilling technologies, electronics, geosciences, materials, sensors, and explosives/propellants.
Our customer base spans a wide variety of governmental and private sponsors, and we work closely with the geothermal power industry, oil & gas developers, service companies, other national laboratories and academia. In addition, the department maintains and continually updates a wide variety of unique testing capabilities for evaluation of technologies in simulated downhole environments.

WORKING CONDITIONS

About Our Team
The Geothermal Research Department is an organization that delivers unique solutions for customers who require components and systems capable of operating in harsh and often high-temperature environments. The historical mission of the department was to address technology needs related to the development of geothermal energy (a baseload renewable energy resource); in particular accessing, monitoring and engineering of geothermal resources in subsurface geologic environments. This mission continues, but the capabilities of the organization have also been leveraged to address other issues of national importance. Current activities are broad in scope and require the efforts of multidisciplinary technical teams with expertise in mechanical engineering, drilling technologies, electronics, geosciences, materials, sensors, and explosives/propellants.
Our customer base spans a wide variety of governmental and private sponsors, and we work closely with the geothermal power industry, oil & gas developers, service companies, other national laboratories and academia. The Research Technologist assists in study execution; collects samples from and administers agents to research animals in accordance with IACUC standards with a large focus on necropsy on multiple species. Group 1380, Nuclear Facility Operations and applied Nuclear Technologies, operates unique nuclear and radiological facilities, and conducts radiation effects research and analysis supporting the mission of Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) and the nation's interest. Security Clearance

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
1. Knowledge of professional environmental principles, practices, techniques, and procedures to effectively perform project development, execution, training, and advisory services in assigned program element.
2. Knowledge to troubleshoot environmental problems requiring investigation of unsanitary or questionable conditions in assigned program(s).
3. Knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws, regulations and other guidance to make decisions and recommendations concerning assigned restoration, compliance, conservation, pollution prevention, and/or integration principles and practices; and health, safety, and security practices.
4.
