This candidate will work within the START team providing our EPA client with accurate and pertinent scientific data according to agreed upon methods, procedures, and techniques. The candidate will provide leadership within a team responsible for delivering sound conclusions and recommendations to EPA based upon field investigations and literature reviews within the established project schedules. The position will also be periodically on-call to support emergency response projects as needed. Location: Portland, Oregon Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: * B.S. in a Science and 0-2 years of experience in environmental and/or geotechnical sampling, and/or removal oversight. Oil and hazardous materials emergency response experience is a plus. * Ability to plan, lead, and participate in site walks, site evaluations, removal assessments, and removal action oversight projects, including oil, and hazardous materials emergency response projects. * Experience performing site assessments and collecting multimedia samples. * Exposure to various technical and scientific procedures * Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Completion of ICS courses a plus. * General understanding of the NCP, Oil Pollution Act and CERCLA. * 40-Hour HAZWOPER * Able to work in Levels C/B/A PPE Technical and Operational Scope: * Identifies staff in alignment with tasking, plan, and document field activities, and prepare daily and final reports for EPA client within established budgets and schedule. * Exercises judgment on applicability of methods and approaches in use and determines best approaches to problem solving when standard procedures are inadequate. * Determines best method of data gathering, data base management, and analysis of data to achieve goals. * Consults with outside specialists to obtain most accurate and timely data possible while meeting project specifications and timetables. * Calibrates and maintains a variety of multi-media monitoring and sampling equipment. * Knowledge of preparing cost estimates and scope of work for project execution. * Proficient in the writing of technical documents including sampling, data, and safety plans. * Uses level D-A PPE to make entries into potentially hazardous areas. * Duties may include rotations as an "on-call" responder available 24 hours a day for one week at a time, and periodic Hazmat and oil spill emergency responses/removal assessment/action assignments. The Dotter Department of Interventional Radiology is a part of the OHSU School of Medicine, with its own admitting service and clinic. We provide all the diagnostic angiographic, interventional radiologic, and neurointerventional services to the OHSU and VA Hospitals. The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The individual hired for this position will serve as research faculty and lab manager for the Dotter Memorial Research Laboratory at the Dotter Institute. The role of the lab manager is to carry out and facilitate the educational and research projects at the Institute. This will be done under the supervision of the Director of Research, and the Director of the Institute overall. Activities include coordination of clinical and translational lab research, including protocol design, preparation and execution. The Dotter research lab offers additional educational workshops involving an animal model for which the lab manager is responsible to organize and conduct. We also support industry and academic collaborators by providing translational research support, device prototype testing, and running educational/teaching labs. The lab manager is expected to play an active role in reaching out to potential industry and academic collaborators to continue and expand our lab activities and scope. Key Responsibilities: * Support clinical test development through computational analysis of data and development of computational tools. * Develop, validate, and maintain bioinformatics pipelines aligned with CAP/CLIA requirements. * Implement and benchmark tools, algorithms, and workflows for variant calling, expression analysis, and proteomic profiling. * Collaborate with medical directors, clinical bioinformatics teams, and wet bench scientists in a cross-disciplinary environment. * Contribute to SOP-driven analysis workflows, ensuring reproducibility and regulatory compliance. * Manage and maintain code, data, and version control repositories (e.g., GitHub). * Provide bioinformatics support for clinical reporting and test development. * Stay current with emerging literature, methods, and tools in computational biology and clinical bioinformatics. * Participates in the supervision of trainees involved in computational projects Required Qualifications * Master's Degree in Computational Biology or related field AND 3 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Computational Biology or related field AND 6 years of relevant experience * 1 year of clinical experience in NGS data analysis including variant calling, copy number analysis and structural variant interpretation * 1 year of clinical Bioinformatics Tools & Pipelines: Alignment (BWA, STAR, HISAT2); Variant callers (Mutect2, VarScan, Strelka, FreeBayes); Annotation tools (ANNOVAR, VEP, Oncotator); Workflow management (Nextflow, Snakemake, WDL/Cromwell) * Demonstrated ability to develop genomic analysis workflows. * Demonstrated skills in a high-level programming language, preferably Python or R, Pearl, preferably in Linux or Unix, optionally with Java or C/C++ * Experience with artificial intelligence methods. * Experience with SOP-driven workflows for reproducibility and accreditation compliance * Experience with statistics and its applications to data analysis and interpretation * Experience with structured data storage and with multi-component data processing systems * Experience with architecture or tools for managing "omics" or imaging data * Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time * Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills: both written and verbal * Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems * Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Access, Word, and PowerPoint) on Window OS. Ability to accurately type 60wpm * Working knowledge of Oracle * Must have demonstrated excellent customer service skills both on the phone and in person * Must possess energy and drive to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously * Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships Preferred Qualifications * PhD in Computational Biology or related field * Experience as a data analyst, data scientist, software developer or biostatistician, including at least 6 months in a collaborative teamwork environment. * Clinical report generation * Experience with AWS data workflows * Familiarity with CLIA/CAP regulations for molecular diagnostics * High-performance computing experience * Experience developing, training, and implementing AI-based tools.
