Department Profile:
The Northern Gulf Institute (NGI) is a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Cooperative Institute comprised of six academic institutions that are geographically distributed across the U.S. Gulf Coast states. The six NGI member institutions are Mississippi State University (lead), the University of Southern Mississippi, Florida State University, Louisiana State University, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and the Dauphin Island Sea Laboratory. Together with NOAA and in support of their strategic plan, NGI conducts research on interconnections among Gulf of Mexico environments, habitats, resources, and people and engages in outreach to help others learn about and make decisions based on these interconnections.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in fishery-independent surveys of queen conch populations by traveling to
selected jurisdictions and safely conducting SCUBA diving and snorkel operations as
needed
Comply with all diving safety regulations as specified in the NOAA Diving Standards
and Safety Manual and follow any additional instructions from the Unit Dive Supervisor
at the Galveston Lab
Maintain diving proficiency and current status as a NOAA diver
Assist project Principal Investigators (PIs) with resource surveys and sample collection
including field trip and logistical planning, coordinating with trip participants,
maintaining gear, and packing field equipment
Enter data collected in the field and in the lab into approved formats and database
applications, conduct quality control reviews of entered data sets, store hard copies in
secure locations, and ensure that completed databases are stored and backed up
appropriately
Assist PIs in the laboratory as needed by sorting and identifying nekton and benthic
macroinfauna collected from field samples
Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. or B.A. in biological sciences or related fields
Current qualifications and status as a NOAA Diver
Knowledge of the ecology and life history parameters of queen conch

Experience conducting fishery-independent population surveys of queen conch using

Strong foundation in integrating omics data (e.g., transcriptomics, metagenomics, proteomics) with genomic data.
Proficient in R, Python, and Bash scripting, with experience managing bioinformatics pipelines in Unix/Linux environments.
Familiarity with GWAS methods (e.g., mlma/loco, fast GWA, ridge regression/BLUP, ss GWAS, Bayesian methods, etc) and software (e.g., PLINK, GCTA, BOLT-LMM, etc).
Familiar in tools for genetic/genomic evaluation such as BLUPf90.

The candidate should exhibit a global and interdisciplinary perspective in the history of both innovation and scholarly research and be willing to work across disciplines which include the intersections of creative practice, interdisciplinary collaborations, product design, and design for innovation.

Process semen specimens for artificial insemination/IVF-ICSI, hyaluran sperm binding assays and cryopreservation
Maintain, organize, scan and file patient results, making sure that all records are complete, including physician signatures, and accurate. Confirm results on the patient ART Summary sheets in EMR
Perform and maintain quality control records on all materials associated with the IVF lab and process
Insure that all laboratory procedures have properly consented prior to performing them
Communicate directly with physicians regarding daily IVF/ICSI and embryo development outcomes
Perform quality assurance and preventative maintenance
QUA Maintain, clean and disinfect of the IVF Lab and its equipment (especially the incubators)
Inform and work with nurses to coordinate daily procedure scheduling
Work with the Lab supervisor to maintain ART records for SART
Other duties as assigned

ROLE OVERVIEW
The Bovine IVF Embryologist is an integral part of our global team to help bring
certainty to genetic progress in livestock. The Embryologist will work alongside team
members to perform all duties associated with embryo production, data entry, and
communication while adhering to all laboratory standard operating procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Complete Vytelle's specialized training program designed to prepare team members for fieldwork at our satellite locations for oocyte collection and in the IVF lab. (This will require travel to our training facility in Texas.)
Work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs), processing directives, production standards, policies, health and safety directives and regulations.
Maintain flexibility for working hours as IVF processes are time-dependent, includes some weekend work.
Travel to satellite locations with Vytelle veterinarians- may include overnight travel.
Prepare, maintain and plan collection-related tasks and equipment; adhere to standard collection workflow.
Conduct oocyte quality assessment at collection; identify and report any anomalies detected during collections.
Enter collection data electronically and produce daily collection reports.
Collaborate with veterinarians and satellite managers to provide superior customer service as a representative of Vytelle. Assist with maintaining integrity of media

Report to lab location as needed for in person meetings, gather supplies for OPUs / transfer projects, or specific project assigned by manager

WORK LOCATION & TRAVEL EXPECTATIONSThe Bovine IVF Field Embryologist will be responsible for traveling to customer sites, including procedures conducted at satellite partner locations and on-farm settings. This role also requires routine reporting to the Vytelle laboratory nearest the employee's residence to collect necessary supplies. This laboratory will be designated as the employee's home base. Travel between the employee's residence and the home base is considered standard commuting and is therefore not eligible for mileage reimbursement. Mileage reimbursement will apply to business-related travel from the home base to satellite locations, on-farm sites, or other approved destinations.
