What We're Looking For Baylor University's Molecular Ecology lab (Biology Department), led by Dr. Jeremiah ‘Jake' Minich **************************************************************************** invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the area of microbial ecology with a special focus on host-microbe interactions. The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will be working in a uniquely collaborative and productive lab. Dr. Jeremiah Minich's lab is leading research on in long-read metagenomics applied to global health (child undernutrition), OneHealth, and sustainable food production systems (aquaculture). The Postdoc will be taking a leadership role in a developing new tools and approaches for long-read metagenomics and applying these to both human health and aquaculture related projects, will assist in other funded projects, will be exposed to many research topics associated with environmental biotechnology, and will have the opportunity to start new projects. The Minich lab has a PacBio Vega benchtop sequencer (first in a Texas University), a high-performance computing cluster, and a fully equipped molecular lab. Priority will be given to candidates with experience working with computational biology (including ML/AI), biostatistics, functional genomics (comparative genomics and pangenomes), microbial ecology analysis targeting microbial genomes, microbial pathways, and microbially-produced metabolites as demonstrated through publications and references. Experience with long-read DNA sequencing approaches applied to microbial genomics Strong background in biostatistics and data authentication methodologies, including experience with tools such as MaAsLin2/3, ALDEx2, ANCOM-BC2, and other relevant computational packages. Familiarity with amplicon gene sequencing, metagenomics, and downstream profiling tools (Sylph, MetaPhlAn4, HUMAnN, StrainPhlAn, Kraken-LR, BugSeq, Centrifuge-LR, MEGAN-LR, sourmash, minimap2, or similar tools) Familiar with snakemake or other workflow packages Experience with long-read metagenome assembly (e.g. meta MDBG, mylo ASM, HiFiASM) and functional annotation pipelines (e.g., Prokka, Prodigal, DRAM-LR, eggnog-mapper). Proficient with microbiome-specific bioinformatics pipelines including QIIME2, Qiita, Experience with comparative genomics or pangenome analyses methods Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git and GitHub, including cloning, managing repositories, branching, and implementing collaborative and reproducible data analysis workflows. Experience in applying machine learning or AI approaches to genomics data (e.g. BLUP, extreme gradient boosting ‘XGBoost', penalized linear regression LASSO, ridge regression, elastic net models, or others) Desired Qualifications (Molecular ‘wetlab'): Bench (wetlab) experience doing molecular biology (DNA extractions, RNA extractions, PCR. library preparation ‘long-read' and PacBio preferred, and sequencing). What We Are Looking For The Nano-Optics and Advanced Health-Sensing (NOAHS) Lab at Baylor University is looking for a Postdoc Research Associate who will focus on photonic integrated circuits (PICs) design and characterization for several recently funded projects in large-scale optical interconnects and optical computing. The Postdoc will be primarily responsible for designing hybrid silicon-conductive oxide photonic circuits using commercial foundry or industrial sponsored photonic shuttle to achieve low-power, high speed optical systems. The candidate should also lead the characterization of PICs, especially high-speed optoelectronic measurement using microwave network analyzer and digital communication analyzer. The position is renewable each year based on performance and availability of continued funding. What We Are Looking For The Wright Group in the Departments of Biology and Chemistry & Biochemistry at Baylor University is seeking multiple postdoctoral research associates with expertise in chemical biology and/or chemoproteomics. The Wright Group is focused on phenotype-driven studies of gut and oral microbiomes. Within this focus, the research group has a strong program in the synthesis and application of chemical probes in complex biological systems and measurements of probe labeling by LC-MS based proteomics, fluorescence microscopy, and cell sorting. This position will primarily support research to develop and apply chemical probes for the selective isolation of pathogens from oral microbiomes. We are hoping to extend our expertise by identifying exceptionally motivated individuals with a Ph.D. and a background in chemical biology, with priority given to candidates with expertise in synthesizing and using chemical probes or protein-targeting small molecules. Candidates with expertise in probe-dependent cell sorting or chemoproteomics experience are aligned well with the needs of the position. Candidates must have obtained a Ph.D. and have a background in chemical biology, organic chemistry, or a related field prior to beginning their assignment. What We're Looking For Baylor University has an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Experimental High Energy Physics beginning no sooner than August 1st, 2025. The successful candidate will join the Experimental High Energy Physics group led by Profs. Brinkerhoff, Dittmann, Hatakeyama, and Wilson to participate in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The group currently plays a major role in the Phase 2 upgrade of the endcap calorimeter, the development of novel calorimeters for future experiments, the operation of the recently upgraded hadron calorimeter, trigger system optimization, and improvement of particle flow reconstruction. We are currently engaged in measurements involving the top quark, searches for rare Higgs boson decays, searches for supersymmetry and other new phenomena, and measurements of rare standard model processes.
