Baylor university is seeking a short-term postdoctoral researcher for computational research in quantum or molecular computing. The computational researcher will work onsite at Baylor University to perform scientific calculations in support of research projects and proposals under the supervision of the principal investigator, Dr. Enrique Blair. Monarch Research and Education Internship - Fort Cavazos

Dates: Positions will as early as March 2025. Please include your availability and preferred start and end dates.
Duration: This is a spring position that will last 8-10 weeks. Longer positions are available if candidate is able to travel.
Compensation: $650/week + health insurance (if needed). All project-related travel costs will be covered by EFTA, including roundtrip travel costs if relocation is required, and a mileage rate of $0.40/mile for all driving.
Location: Fort Cavazos is a military installation located in Killeen, TX. All field research activities will occur on the installation.

About EFTA's Monarch Conservation on Military Lands Program
Environment for the Americas is proud to partner with the U.S. Forest Service and Department of Defense on this monarch monitoring and conservation project on military installations. This partnership highlights a collective commitment to monitor and conserve monarch butterflies, especially in light of their potential ESA (Endangered Species Act) listing in 2024.
We collaborate closely with key organizations, including the Monarch Joint Venture, the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, and university researchers. Additionally, we work hand-in-hand with Department of Defense Natural Resource Managers at installations across the monarch's range.
Position Description:
The Monarch Research and Education Internship provides a unique opportunity to actively contribute to monarch butterfly monitoring and conservation efforts. Interns will conduct monarch butterfly monitoring and habitat assessments using standardized protocols, working alongside biologists on military installations to identify and evaluate habitat.
This is a field-based position located on military installations across the U.S. where monarch butterflies breed and overwinter. Mondays through Thursdays are typically spent in the field, while Fridays are reserved for inputting data, writing blogs, and completing other computer-based tasks.
Interns will be trained to conduct breeding surveys using protocols including the Integrated Monarch Monitoring Program (IMMP). They will collect data on milkweed presence, blooming plant species, and the presence of adult monarchs, eggs, and larvae.
Interns will also have the opportunity to facilitate outreach and education programs that facilitate connections and awareness of monarchs, pollinators, and migratory species among military families. All EFTA interns contribute biweekly blogs to the EFTA website and attend virtual webinars and team meetings.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Research:
Data Collection: Spend significant time in the field collecting essential data, particularly during the spring and summer breeding season. Gather data on milkweed, blooming plants, and monarch breeding activities to contribute to monitoring and research efforts.
Overwintering Research (California interns only): Participate in overwintering surveys starting in September, including the Western Monarch Count and identifying critical overwintering groves. Additional opportunities may involve collaborating on a Motus tagging and tracking project.
Communication & Team Engagement:
Communication & Reporting: Interact with Natural Resource Managers on military installations and partner organizations. Provide weekly fieldwork updates to the EFTA Monarch Program Manager.
Team Meetings & Webinars: Participate in weekly team meetings and data check-ins. Attend webinars with monarch researchers and other industry leaders.
Biweekly Blogs: Write blogs for the EFTA website, sharing fieldwork highlights, updates, and personal experiences.
Education & Community Engagement:
Outreach Programs: Develop and lead engaging educational programs for the military community, including classroom presentations, scout programs, nature walks, and citizen science activities for active-duty service members and their families.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities. Capable of maintaining regular, clear communication with EFTA staff, Department of Defense personnel, and the general public.
Interest in Conservation: Passion for wildlife conservation, ecology, or environmental science, particularly concerning pollinators and their habitats.
Self-Motivated and Independent: Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in field-based conditions. Comfortable driving to monitoring sites and working outdoors for extended periods.
Technical Skills: Familiarity with Google Drive, Sheets, Docs, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) for data entry and reporting.

What We Are Looking For The Baylor University department of Educational Psychology is seeking applicants for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate under the direction of Dr. Bree Jimenez. The selected candidate will assist with the data collection, evaluation, analysis, and project management of federally funded research grants. Research focuses on engineering and numeracy for students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities. Ongoing research projects evaluate interventions to support engineering design and universal design for learning for elementary children and teacher training in evidence-based practices and STEM education for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will receive mentorship from faculty in conducting single-case & mixed-methods research and federal grant management and writing. The Department of Educational Psychology is committed to conducting meaningful and rigorous research and to securing external research funding.
Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The start date for this position is negotiable based on candidate availability and organizational needs. The preferred start date for this position is August 1st of 2025. The assignment is for one year, with the possibility of extension for an additional year depending on performance, funding, and mutual agreement.
Qualifications:
Required:

What We Are Looking For
The Wright Group in the Departments of Biology and Chemistry & Biochemistry at Baylor University is currently taking applicants for multiple open Postdoctoral Research Associates with focuses in either Phage Biology or Microbial Cell Sorting.
The Wright Group is focused on phenotype-driven studies of gut and oral microbiomes. Within this focus, the research group has a strong program in the synthesis and application of chemical probes in complex biological systems, with an emphasis on measuring probe labeling and phenotype-driven cell selection using LC-MS based proteomics, fluorescence microscopy, and cell sorting.
Microbiology and/or Phage Biology:
In a newly funded project, we are seeking to expand our expertise by identifying exceptionally motivated individuals to develop novel approaches to selectively isolate pathogenic bacteria from microbiomes and evaluate them for phage infection.
Candidates must have obtained their Ph.D. in phage biology or microbiology prior to beginning the assignment. Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in bacteriophage, microbial pathogens and/or microbiome science. The candidate must be able to independently design and execute experiments.
Postdoctoral researchers with expertise in phage biology will be expected to develop and execute independent research in microbiome studies, focusing on phage biology. Expertise may include performing laboratory research using microbiology and fluorescent assays, with heavy emphasis on selective isolation of microbes; a focus on bacteriophage infected microbes is preferred.
Cell Sorting:
We are also looking to identify exceptionally motivated individuals with a strong background in microbial cell sorting.
Candidates must have obtained their Ph.D. in microbiology, chemical biology, bioanalytical chemistry, or a related field, prior to beginning their assignment. The candidate must be able to independently design and execute experiments using FACS approaches.
Postdoctoral researchers with expertise in cell sorting will be expected to develop and execute independent research in phenotype-driven microbiome studies using cell sorting strategies. Including performing laboratory research using microbial cell sorting, with heavy emphasis on selective isolation of cells from microbiomes based on phenotype.

Develop and execute independent research in phenotype-driven microbiome studies using chemical biology strategies
Perform laboratory research using chemical biology, with heavy emphasis on selective isolation of cells from microbiomes based on phenotype
Perform fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS), organic synthesis, carbohydrate chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, and proteomics
Organic Chemistry:
We are also wishing to identify exceptionally motivated individuals with a Ph.D. and a background in organic chemistry, with priority given to candidates with expertise in synthesis of chemical probes, protein-targeting small molecules, or natural products. Candidates must be able to develop and execute independent research in chemical syntheses. Prior experience applying small molecules to biological systems is beneficial, but not required.
Candidates must have obtained a Ph.D. and have a background in organic chemistry or a related field prior to beginning their assignment. Due to the specialized research of the Wright Group, individuals with expertise in organometallic chemistry or inorganic chemistry will not be prioritized for this role.
Additional skills of interest include experience in one or more of the following areas: reverse phase separations, carbohydrate chemistry, synthesis of fluorescent molecules, and/or application of small molecules to biological systems.
Candidates with a focus in organic will be expected to:
Develop and execute independent research in synthetic organic chemistry
Prepare high purity probe compounds using normal phase and reverse phase separations
Perform high-throughput synthetic chemistry, when appropriate
Work in a modern synthetic chemistry lab with advanced separations capabilities
The successful candidate will be expected to collaboratively develop novel ideas and methods for applications relevant to internal and externally funded research programs. In addition, the selected candidate will be required to contribute to, and possibly lead, the preparation of reports, papers, posters, presentations, etc.

What We Are Looking For
The Wright Group in the Departments of Biology and Chemistry & Biochemistry at Baylor University is currently taking applicants for multiple open Postdoctoral Research Associates with focuses in either Phage Biology or Microbial Cell Sorting.
The Wright Group is focused on phenotype-driven studies of gut and oral microbiomes. Within this focus, the research group has a strong program in the synthesis and application of chemical probes in complex biological systems, with an emphasis on measuring probe labeling and phenotype-driven cell selection using LC-MS based proteomics, fluorescence microscopy, and cell sorting.
Microbiology and/or Phage Biology:
In a newly funded project, we are seeking to expand our expertise by identifying exceptionally motivated individuals to develop novel approaches to selectively isolate pathogenic bacteria from microbiomes and evaluate them for phage infection.
Candidates must have obtained their Ph.D. in phage biology or microbiology prior to beginning the assignment. Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in bacteriophage, microbial pathogens and/or microbiome science. The candidate must be able to independently design and execute experiments.
Postdoctoral researchers with expertise in phage biology will be expected to develop and execute independent research in microbiome studies, focusing on phage biology. Expertise may include performing laboratory research using microbiology and fluorescent assays, with heavy emphasis on selective isolation of microbes; a focus on bacteriophage infected microbes is preferred.
Cell Sorting:
We are also looking to identify exceptionally motivated individuals with a strong background in microbial cell sorting.
Candidates must have obtained their Ph.D. in microbiology, chemical biology, bioanalytical chemistry, or a related field, prior to beginning their assignment. The candidate must be able to independently design and execute experiments using FACS approaches.
Postdoctoral researchers with expertise in cell sorting will be expected to develop and execute independent research in phenotype-driven microbiome studies using cell sorting strategies. Including performing laboratory research using microbial cell sorting, with heavy emphasis on selective isolation of cells from microbiomes based on phenotype.
